Anyone know why my SoCal tips didn't fit?

These ended up not working on my base 08 TL. They either would've had to been put on at an angle or extremely low; no happy medium. So, I just had my welder apply the old exhaust tip again. Here's a link of the exact ones I purchased.

sounds like your welder didn't know what he was doing.

i only say that because MANY people on this forum are running those exhaust tips on their base bumpers.

He's actually very qualified which is why I was referred to this shop. But I even looked a it when he called me in...the way the outlet comes off the muffler is at an angle? So the tip would either be touching the exhaust shroud OR have to be much lower and not flush like I've seen on here. I'll take a picture soon.

you can see the bend, also the outlet isn't near the middle of the muffler haha. How did you guys manage to get these on?! they fit fine in the shroud if they can be aligned somehow but a straight cut of the old and weld with the new wasn't happening.

I ended up telling him to weld the original back on. Does everyone's muffler look like this though? I would love to see the underneath of someone's car with these tips and how they made these work on the stock muffler.

so yours probably ended up looking like this...

what you need to do is have the welder angle the tips UPWARD so that they are flush, like below.

does that happen to be your car? if so, can you get a shot underneath? he did mention welding it upward..it still didn't seem to look right though. the first picture though, I'm 99% sure they wouldn't have came out that straight haha

no its not mine. i just did a quick google search. if you ever want to find something acurazine related, do not use the search function on this site. it's horrible.

just go to google and put in "whatever you want to know + acurazine" and you'll find it instantly.

once the welder angles the tips upward, it'll look perfect once on flat ground. nobody will be the wiser. a few people have had to go this route.

yeah, I've noticed I find a lot of irrelevant things when searching and I've only been a member on this particular site for maybe 2 weeks. thanks for the help though, I'll probably go back and try the "upward" route. I just don't want them to be offset to one side or the other.

Maybe if they were pushed up a little bit higher. Other than that they look fine.

Those tips won't fit the base bumper with the exhaust trim on. You have the remove those or install A-Spec lip (which also removes those). The tips on the silver TL are different than the ones you bought.

I have tips very similar and I had to trim the inside of the A-Spec to tuck them up high. Mine are also installed angled upward.

These fit fine in the base bumper, it's just the angle that is any issue.

Winning, your issue was the same issue I had when these were on my car. They were welded a bit low so I had them taken off and had the stock tips put back on. The upward angle does suck coming off the base exhaust.

The exhaust tips have an inlet of 2.5" and the stock piping is 2.25" so the tips will slip over the stock piping very easily so the upward angle weld can be achieved. OR the welder should be able to create a coupler so that they can weld together more easily and stay consistent with the upward angle of the stock piping.

If you go with the upward angle weld the tips will be kind of squished in there especially if you have the rear a-spec lip installed, BUT you will not have to worry about the exhaust tips getting hot, because along with the upward weld there will still be a small gap between the 2.5" inlet and the 2.25" piping of the stock exhaust letting heat escape.

Great to here! I mean, it's too bad you were in the same position but that's very helpful information haha. What route did you choose to go?

Question: to avoid custom fabbing 2 couplers, how would the car sound with the two rear mufflers gone and replacing them with straight pipes leading to the new tips?

it would sound loud and obnoxious.

but if that's what you're going for, then go for it.

even just removing the 2 at the back and keeping the cat, resonator and mid muffler? i've been reading that those really don't even make a difference..I couldn't tell you honestly though

well you'd be taking out 2 huge mufflers, they're in place to "muffle" the sound.

it will def be noticeably louder than stock.

keep in mind that is a youtube video. it's not like you're standing right next to that car in person.

The exhaust shop asked me if I wanted to do that to get the tips to come out level. I personally wouldn't do it and the upward angle doesn't look bad at all. From the side it flows with the lines of the bumper.

did you have them make a "coupler" or just straight off the original outlet?

While I was at the shop, he said he could make them fit, but instead of going through all the hassle to do so and if I didn't like the outcome in the end, I just decided to have the stock tips put back on. I just had them extended out a little bit so they didn't look as sunk in under the A-Spec rear lip.

Not sure where you got the video from that you posted above, probably this thread https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...=851213&page=2 but that's not a bad idea, if you're looking for a louder exhaust overall. From some of the other videos in that thread, it doesn't sound bad and there doesn't seem to be any rasp by removing them. Sounds pretty tame at idle, almost stock, then when you get on it, it really opens up. Guess it all depends on how you want your car to sound when all is said and done.

yeah that's what I thought too. I am by no means looking for a performance exhaust or loud exhaust. I want it to be as close to stock as possible, doing this seems to give the exhaust note some life though. I rarely ever floor the car..I think normal driving conditions would be fine. Hopefully haha
