Anyone changed auto- transmission fluid
Just did my 5AT fluid drain/fill last week. I should have joined earlier not knowing it had a filter. My car has 48,000kms on it. Have been doing this since my last acura every 50,000kms and is highly recommended.
I used Honda Z1 but am also thinking about mobil 1 syn for the next change @100K. My mechanic (not dealership) recommends Honda Z1 because he claims it has the minerals fit for the car. Another mechanic stronglt recommends Mobil 1.
Any thoughts?

Redline D4 is another fluid I would look into. Both Redline and Amsoil use no VIIs and are close to the same 100C viscosity as the Z1 with much better cold flow.
I've never looked at the the Mobil 1 product but if it's anything like their motor oils you don't know if you're getting a fully synthetic base stock regardless of what the bottle says but you can count on paying the fully synthetic price.
Ok so I did my transmission drain and fill at my dealer today. I specifically told them if they do a regular drain/fill or 3x3 and they said they only do regular. Wtf... And it is a huge dealer, one of the biggest in this region and they don't even do 3x3?! umm yeaa well anyways I'm a noob and went ahead and did the regular.
PS does that seem right? No 3x3?

So I went to my dealer and asked about the 3x3 drain and fill and they don't even do it. I asked are you sure and they assured me that no, they only do the drain and fill once. Is this for real? They are a big dealership and they don't even do this?
Don't get me wrong, *some* of thier products are full synthetic. I've heard the high mileage oils are mostly synthetic and their 0w-40 is an awesome synthetic.
Amsoil is very clear in their labeling. Everthing but the XL line is a true synthetic. What Amsoil markets as a dino oil, most other companties market as "full synthetic". Thats my only point. Mobil products will serve you well, just keep in mind the price and what you're getting.
If you want the best protection, Redline is it. Group V ester, lots of Zinc, Phosphorus, and tons of moly for wear protection and friction reduction. It's also super shear stable, you can take the car to a few track days and not need to change the oil after each one. It has a very high HTHS for it's viscosity. Their 5w-20 has a higher HTHS (which usually goes up as viscosity goes up) than most 30wts. Their 5w-30 has a higher HTHS than most 40 grades. What this means is the get the flow of a 20 or 30wt depending on what you choose but the protection of the next higher grade.
VVV from my post above:
My 05 AT has 62k on it and the display came on reading A13. I read that as Oil change and tranny fluid change. The dealer told me that wouldn't come up til around 90 or 100k?
I will be switching the engine oil to full synthetic this weekend. Any clue why the tranny fluid change code? I will probably pick that up and do that anyway.
Thanks!
