Anoying Rattle...

There is an anoying rattle coming from the stearing column... Everytime I go over a bump it vibrates...

I'd like to get in there and see what is causing the vibration. Any Ideas how to take the top cover off ?

Thanks

is it worth having a $1000.00 airbag go off in your face? take it to the dealer if it's under warranty...

Definetly not worth that dude... However, the airbag is in the actual stearing wheel and the rattle is coming from the stearing column. ( the telescopic piece between the gauges and the atual staring wheel ) It has a top and bottom cover and It seems like it's just a screw holding it together...

Any info would be appreciated.

Thank you

I had a rattle that would occur when on rough pavement and I couldn't tell if it was from the steering column or the steering wheel. If I hit the outer rim of the wheel I could reproduce the rattle, also if I held the wheel tight when driving it would usually stop.
Finally took it in to the dealer and it was a clip for the cable reel, airbag making the noise. They fixed that one and the sunroof deflector rattle. Now I have 3 more. One from the upper console display cover up by the dashboard, one from the console (shifter bezel or compartment door?) and one from the rear deck.
Otherwise I have no complaints with the car. But I think the plastic Honda is using is too brittle or something. Shouldn't be having these problems. If I can get these fixed, I will still be loving the car. Otherwise...........

I think I have that buzz. Thanks for sharing the fix. I will tell the techs on Monday when I bring it in.

Hey StevesTL,

Is there any way to specify whether or not it is possible to fix this on our own because I have the exact same problem but I don't feel like taking it to the dealer for that.

I already removed the top and bottom cover of the stearing column so I just need to know where this air bag clip is.

Thanks a bunch!

I sent you a personal reply on this, but considering they had to order a part and disassemble the airbag area, I don't think you want to try it. Thankfully it has not come back either.

tap the top of your steering wheel..if it makes noise...determine if it's coming from the lever for the windshield wipers..

Hey StevesTL

Thanks for getting back to me man...

Is there any way you can give me more info on what was done... maybe a part number written on your invoice...? Just so that I can go to the dealer and tell them exactly what needs to be changed ?

Thanks again...

Had this problem with our TL we got on Monday. Took it into the dealer on Wednesday, one of the guys from their shop took it for a drive and heard the rattle, they said this has been a common problem with TL's. Just yesterday we got a call back from them saying that things should be ready to go today, so we shall see when I go to the dealer later today if the rattle is gone.

Please let us know if and what the fix is. I have the same issue and it is seemingly getting worse.

I have had several rattles in the steering column area. One of the tricky ones was the kick panel (parallel to the floor). It rests on two little stubs, and sometimes they bounce up and down on it when you drive over rougher roads. I put some foam tape around the nub so while it still moves, it has a much smaller distance to travel. The foam tape also muffles the noise.
