I have owned a 2005 TL for 10 months and the car is great- I have had 1 rattle that came from the air vent on the driver's side, but after playing around with it a little, it did go away. Over the months that followed I experienced a very annoying tapping/rattling coming from somewhere in the front area of the dash but couldn't pinpoint it. One day after months of this I finally had enough and picked out a bumpy road that I frequented and very carefully while driving started pressing with my hand different parts of the dash, console, vents, speaker,glove compartment, and lo and behold, the headliner area right by the sunroof control and vanity lights-- that was it. When I pressed the area with my hand, the noise would disappear and when I released the pressure the noise came right back. I took a piece of cloth and carefully wedged it all the way in between the gap ( the headliner piece and the roof ). I used a thin butter knife to get the cloth in so as not to scratch anything. The noise is completely gone; hope this helps anyone out there with a similar annoyance.
