Am I looking at a broken ball joint?

Recently, I've been having severe clunking noises and every time I hit a bump on a the road it feels like the whole suspension is gonna snap. Got a chance to check it out today and this is what I saw....

An Ingalls front camber kit would replace that broken part correct? I just want to make sure before I start buying parts.

It looks loose to me. I don't know how it can get loose like that with the pin in there. Try removing the pin and tighten the nut.

well for one the dust/grease boot's shot so get that replaced. All that grit in there's wearing the ball joint down.

Is there a lot of movement at that joint? Since the cotter pin is still there, it's unlikely it's loose but as another pointed out, you're missing the rubber boot.

I don't know if you can just get the rubber boot, might have to replace the whole joint.

Yeah there is a lot a movement at that joint. I can simply push down the the strut and the ball joint is free to move. Definitely missing the rubber piece though...Heres the picture of the other side. I can just replace the joint with a front camber kit correct? Might as well upgrade if I can.

If there is play, then you need to replace it.

I would read up on what Marcus @ Heeltoe wrote:

If your alignment is in spec, then you're wasting you money. Unless you plan more drop or other suspension mods in the future.

Dude, I can't believe that ball joint hasn't given out yet. That gap should never be like that. I needed a 3-4ft breaker bar to bust the stock ball joints out when I did my front camber kit so that shows you the force that it's probably taken to get yours like that.

You need that replaced ASAP, do not drive on it.

No bueno man....

^Good call....That thing must sound horrible. I would check that upper A arm to make sure it isn't deformed.

Yeah my camber isn't in spec and new wheels will be coming in the future and possibly more drop if necessary.

Upper ball joint is definitely shot but Id do some more investigation cuz if you broke he upper then the lower took a nice beating as well, not to mention the upper control arm. So just pressing in the ingalls camber ball joints might not be good enough if the upper arm is slightly bent.

If I were you I would replace the upper arm. $60 I think it cost for the part from the dealer and it's just 2 annoying bolts. Look into the Skunk 2 upper camber arms from heel toe. It's a combined camber ball joint and upper arm as one. No need to pay for someone to press in the joint. You could install yourself. The color will match your coils as well ... LOL.

I was just about to point that out, how didn't anyone else NOT notice the damn gap... Time for a new upper control arm or at least a ball joint.

^^ Yeah exactly, I took one look and damn near fell off my chair. Can't believe he drove it for days like this too. This could have easily totalled that car.

Big thanks to me I guess for stating the not so obvious, obvious. lol
