Am I the first? rack and pinion?

I noticed 2-3 weeks ago that there would be a squeaking noise when i'd turn my steering wheel but thought nothing of it and figured it had something to do with the change of weather... or something!.... I brought it to my dad's mechanic today and found out that it was the rack and pinion!!!..... WTF....... i brought it to another mechanic thinking it couldnt be true... but that's whats wrong with it.....

has anyone else had this on there 3G????... I own an 04 TL... 50,000km????

my guess is power steering pump failure or something of the sort. I know a member had his rack and pinon changed 3 times, I think it was tripnbeats...

My p/s pump was replaced under warranty; I have an appointment next week for a rotation and asked that they check the rack to make sure it's ok

I also had my rack replaced late last year after my warranty had run out. They dealership good-willed it any way.

Same here, had my rack changed out about 6 wks ago. Your symptoms sound more like it's the pump though.

It should still be covered, but your suspension isn't anymore.

I also get a low pitched squeak when turning slow into a parking lot, but my pump has already been changed.

^ Do you mostly hear the noise on cold startup?

My 04's power steering pump failed last week and it was out of warranty.

I've been wanting to lower my car for so long, I had the Teins sitting here for months. I changed out my rack. I wanted any warranty repairs taken care of before I lowered it. It was SUCH a difference! It was running perfectly so I went ahead and lowered the car.

Now what I didn't want is starting to happen! I am slowly feeling a return of the sound in the steering AGAIN!!! I know they will blame my Teins if I go back so I am kinda screwed. If it goes bad like before screw it, I'll live with it. It was a $1000 job, I ain't payin for it!

ummm no more noise because the noise was caused by the pump.....the rack has diff BS issues acura is hesitant to fix....ill sue them if they dont continue fixing the rack....i love the car and have put too much time into it to give up on it.....im on a damn 08 type s rack for god sake i mean wtf u know??? they put that one in because they said the 04-06 had huge corrosion probs because of something (prob BS) in the storage locations. whatevrr the story is i want my shit fixed indefinitely until the prob is resolved....i was gonna beat the service managers face in....he called me and said dude u gotta stop beating the car.....i was like yo man im gona come there n beat ur face in....the car isnt abused or ripped into simply because its show quality and i want to keep it like that..... i hve a feeling im being taped because if i say something like yea ok its my car ill do what i want theyll void it all out......but seriously the car sits covered in its location,....500 miles a month or less. it was less than 1000 before the discovered it was blown again.

So can someone tell me the symptoms of a bad rack?

My steering..
- Feels very light / squirrely on the freeway / cornering
- Has a dead zone when cornering [i can move the wheel a bit and its like nothing happens]
- Binds up when parking; all of a sudden I have no assist at all and it's hard to turn the wheels; seems like that's the feeling I should get on the freeway - less assist, and the lighter freeway feeling should happen when i'm moving slow and parking

My P/S pump and lines were replaced due to noise / recall, but i'm wondering if my rack is bad?

I just had my rack and pinion swapped out at Fresno Acura, I had the same symptoms, whining at U-turns (left), and i brought it in, they replaced the rack and pinion uner warranty, then when I got it back, they said that the steering will be tight, heavy until it breaks in, then the steering should "loosen" up.
My 06 Acura TL now feels like it's doesn't even have power steering! It's heavy at turns, and its not like how it used to be. What should i do? Or should I just let it right until it "loosens' up?

HELP!

theres prob bubbles in the system which is normal with a new rack and the 3rd rack i had put in felt the same and im on my 6th now.....someone brought something to my attention yesterday....the right fender is about 1mm above the hood... my car couldve been damaged from Acura when i first bought it...i dont know....but after all the shit i see from dealers before cars are even sold I dont think its impossible....but i am going to have it looked at and make sure all the alignment points on it line up and if they dont im going to bring it to acura and get a lawyer involved.... it just seems like no one at acura actually took the time to look at anything like the muts they call engineers to come look at your car when its had Ehh I dunnno 600 fixes in regards to one specific piece on the car.... it doesnt make sense for the piece to continue breaking....i changed the suspension n a few other pieces as well and hopefully this resolves the issues otheriwse... its going to honda on a flatbed....ive pretty much had it

Did you ever figure out what happened. Did you need to have to get another R&p? I too just replaced the rack and p/s and now it feels like I have no power steering?

start car in park and turn wheels slowly lock to lock to burp air out

I replaced mine (not the car's fault)

It too felt extra heavy for a couple weeks but it went away after a while.

Report TSX rack issue to NHTSA.GOV

I just had to replace the rack on my sons 08 TSX. Very expensive. The safety issue with this problem is what needs to be addressed. When the power steering fails the car becomes extremely difficult to maneuver, particularity for a young or small female driver. I encourage all of you who are having their rack and pinion fail, to report the safety issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety assoc. NHTSA.GOV. If enough complaints arise, then maybe a recall will be forced.

IS there a problem with TL/TSX racks' power assist failing or just normal old age wear and tear causing the "failures"? The good thing is you can still steer the car with no assist. Parking lot speeds are very hard but even a small female can maneuver the car going down the freeway. Obviously it's going to be impared a bit but unless the power assist fails and at the same time you have to swerve to avoid a wreck, I don't see it being a huge safety issue. The odds of a problem occurring from the time the assist fails to the time you can get the car safely off the road are very small.

Now if it were locking up that would be a different story. How widespread is this problem?

I think I need a new rack because I had went through a bunch of PS pumps before I found one that didn't leak. However, my car has been stationary for nearly two months and all the PS fluid had leaked out by the drivers side inner tie rod / boot area.
