Is Acura supposed to replace cabin air filter before they sell certified pre-owned?

Hi I just bought a certified pre-owned '04 TL about 6-8 weeks ago. I just turned on the AC on full blast for the first time really (I usually just open the windows cuz I don't want to waste gas) and it started to smell really bad. From what I've read it's probably the cabin air filter needing to be changed. My question is was my Acura dealer supposed to change the cabin air filter before they sold me the car as certified pre-owned? Or will I have to pay to replace it even though I couldn't have possibly caused it to smell bad this soon? Also how much does it usually cost to get replaced?

They probably *should* have checked/changed it, but I think it's a crapshoot as to whether the dealership actually does the work they are supposed too on CPO's. Depends a lot on the general quality of the dealership.

If it's fairly recent and you approach it right, they'll probably change it for you gratis.

If not, it's an easy DIY and the filter is about $30. If the dealer does it, at their normal retail rate, expect to pay $90 - $120.

Bosch filter 20 bucks
DIY labor 20 minutes
tools- screwdriver- pliers- kitchen scissors

Why do people think CPO means anything more than a basic look over of the car- which the dealer wants to put as little cash into as possible- and checking the VIN for recalls, and some warranty for you.
It does not mean serviced at dealer perfectly or ever serviced!

Because of the Hype. You read the website description and you'd think the car is as good as new once it's been through the Certification Process.

THE ACURA DEALERSHIP TECHNICIANS GIVE IT THE ONCE OVER 150 TIMES.

Every vehicle must pass stringent measures before it can become a Certified Pre-Owned Acura. Only well-maintained, late-model Acura vehicles are considered, and each one must pass a comprehensive 150-point inspection and a Vehicle History Report review. Virtually every mechanical system—from the engine to the door locks—is checked and serviced to meet precise specifications, and a thorough appearance inspection scrutinizes fit and finish—inside and out—to ensure that every vehicle upholds the luxury and sophistication of the Acura name. The Acura Dealership technicians also inspect all placements of the Vehicle Identification Number to ensure that the VIN plates match. In addition, the VIN is researched for open service campaigns.
Here is a link to the Check List (and btw, I did a search within the pdf and could not find Cabin Air Filter mentioned):
