Acclerator not responding right..

I've been having this issue for a while now and while i tried many things, i still cant find the culprit. Lets say I'm driving on the highway doing regular 60-65mph and if i want to accelerate the car doesn't seem to respond the way i think it should. Like when i start pressing the pedal slowly nothing is happening until the rpm's shoot suddenly to about 2000 - 2500rpms, basically under 2000 rpm's the car doesn't seem to accelerate at all or very badly..like the car is a diesel . I've driven many other cars and they seem to be very smooth in the acceleration, i never drove another TL though. And also when it does respond and i keep my foot on the pedal in the same position i see the needle dropping again. I've always wondered if it was normal or not and try many things but nothing helped, especially since there are no codes at all. But the other night I put it in cruise control and accelerated via the buttons on the steering wheel and the car seemed to have such a smooth acceleration and it felt much stronger at the low end. So Im now Im thinking the APP (Accelerator Positioning Sensor) might not be working properly.

Whats you guys take on this situation before I spend another 150 on something that might not take care of the problem.

I can't help much but I would go with the APP sensor especially since it works ok with cruise and cruise basically bypasses the APP sensor as far as I know.

Ok orderd the APP sensor, changed it and i could not recognize my car. Its like i just bought it, i dont remember her at all driving the way she does now. So smooth and about 10 times more responsive as before. I dont wanna jinx anything but I've had this issue for a long time now and finally she drives the way i always imagined she should. The problem i sometimes have with the car becoming sluggish and so on, im pretty sure it was due to this stupid sensor... It never showed any codes or what not... but there you go...

Wow, I'm very interested now. My car has become more and more "disconnected" and erratic. Trans is fine, power is fine, and mpg is fine. Even without it pinging in the winter, it seems like it just doesn't follow the accelerator pedal inputs that closely and I get weird surging.

Maybe an update in a few more days??

oh yea just to add... the Spring on the new sensor assembly compared to the old one was much more softer or lets say it didnt have that much tension on it and you could shake it a little while the old one was very tight for some reason. Also from me looking at it the spring on the old one was longer, if that made any difference i dont know. The car downshifts so effortlessly now....

Sounds like what i used to experience all the time, even sometimes when i just drive out of the garage it didnt feel right compared to lets say my dads passat that i drive sometimes. I used to always avoid driving in "D" since when i manual shift and keep the rpms higher it would be better. While cruising around at a slow pace where the rpms are most of time below 2000 rpms she just felt very lazy to me. I guess thats where the input voltage is the lowest and it could have struggled somehow... who knows...

lets see, tomorrow im gonna drive to work trough some good traffic and report back....

This sounds like mine too! Do you have a cost on the APP? And a DIY? Thanks!

I think you should give the APP Sensor a try. Today i drove it to work and back and she has been flying . When going back i had a chance to avoid traffic by paying the toll and go trough the tunnel but chose the traffic over the bridge, saved myself $ 5.50 and found out after all that stop and go when i had a chance to step on it she responded like a dream and zoom zoom

Another thing where i was pleasantly surprised was that my milage went up and not by little but by a very good amount. At least according to the MID.

I'm considering this as I have the same issue. Can you give us an update, is it still driving better?

Ever since i changed that app-sensor I became in love with my car and would not even think for one second to trade it in for something else

so yes it fixed the whole problem, in addition to to Transmission REDLINE Racing Fluid the car just drives perfect. Now im always eager just to go for a spin

for a $ 150 or maybe a little less cant remember its worth a try. But if you say you are experiencing the same issues then most likely that is the culprit anyways.

good luck to you

Nice find. I've been experiencing this for a little over 2 weeks now. Are any of you a 6spd with this problem?

I guess something like this wouldn't be covered under warranty? I have 4k more miles before it's up.

I changed the APP sensor this morning and definitely noticed a difference. Throttle response is a lot better and the gas pedal doesn't get "stuck" when at a stop light. A big difference when at a stop light.

I read your description of your issue and im not sure if im having the same issue or not...

My issue is that when I step on the gas...if i push too hard too fast the RPM needle jumps up to about 3-5k and the car revs up and moves forward very slow...the needle drops back down to the rpms as they climb up and eventually the cars power matches the rpms...I have been dealing with this by just easing the gas pedal by pushing it very softly and gradually gaining speed...i figured my clutch was slipping but to be honest..other than that my clutch feels great...you think the sensor could be the culprit here?

It's the clutch.

Hope they provided lots of lube, you got raped.
acuraoemparts.com = $250 for clutch set.

No, thanks to you I know better one qoute for 2500 from the dealership and one for 1200 in Altus. What kind of local mechanics you know that do it for only 400? Wow! I take it your flywheel was not in need of replacement?

Like we previously discussed, my flywheel was in great shape!
Actually, a member on here that lives in Houston recommended a shop to me. He had them do a six speed conversion on his CL. They did a good job on his conversion so I was comfortable with them on my clutch! it only took a day.
