AAMCO Transmission

So I stopped by AAMCO transmissions to get the $99.95 power purge.
This means that I get lifetime fluid changes on the transmission. However, I was turned down! What the tech told me was that my fluid is dark in color and it may indicate some hidden problem with the Trany. Mind you my transmission has absolutely no problems what’s so ever shifts into all gears smooth as butter. As anyone experienced this? I have a 2004 TL 110k miles.

While there can be some relation between the color of the transmission fluid, it isn't a sure indication that anything is wrong. Given the problems Acura had with the automatic transmissions with the 2nd Gen and early 3rd Gen its likely AAMCO didn't want to mess around with anything and somehow have the blame fall on them.

110k, I think you have the highest mileage 04 on the forum.

i think it was supposed to be changed at 60k, 90k and 110k. If changing for the first time is 110k, then is will be darkened.

alot of times if tranny fluid hasnt been changed, we've seen at the shop that the tranny can stop working just from changing the fluid. sometimes all the dirt and sludge is whats really holding it together

yeah, that is what everyone has said, they told me just leave it. if it is working fine.
they also said you never know with tranys you can have them last 300k or they can just die at 10k you just never know.
i will just put some cash on the side for that day. or i may just trade in when it dies.

thanks for the replys guys i value your opinions.

I don't think I've ever seen a Honda vehicle with red colored transmission fluid...the ATF-Z1 fluid turns brown very quickly and it is perfectly normal. Any Honda/Acura dealership tech will be able to confirm this for you.

If you want your transmission to last, I suggest that you disregard the advice that you've been given and have your ATF changed on a regular basis starting now.

Do the 3qts 3 times method Gen 2 uses to change out as much as possible
The power suction wont work on the TL- a metal plate undere the dipstick prevents hose from getting deep enough

Mine is red, but then again, I just got a new transmission today. :-)
