Question 99 tl for a 2008 tl

My 99 TL has 226,000 miles on it so I was wondering if its time for a new one. However, does the 2008 model have the same transmission problems as the 1999?

Or should I just keep fixing the old one...needs rotors, and a strut...its on its 3rd transmission, but that seems to be holding up just fine. The car needs 300 to 400$ worth of work, but I just put 300 dollars in for a drive axle that broke in half...I'm afraid this is going to keep happening at this mileage..how long do these cars go for? The engine is still quieter than some new cars out there.

I looked at lots of cars, but seemed to just miss driving the TL so I thought I might get another one and hopefully have better luck with the transmission.

I was going to get the base model, automatic 5 speed transmission. No navigation system this time, cuz that is also annoyingly broke. Even though it did last until this summer started until the hard drive failed.
So what are some common problems with the 2008 TL?

You'll find that there are no problems with the 2008, but there was one recall on the power steering hose, piping. This isn't to say that all 2008's are perfect, just as any vehicle, problems can arise, but overall it's a safe bet it would be a good choice. Drive the car first to make certain it meets your expectation as there are many cars to choose when looking in the $20,000 range; even a brand new car can be an alternative.
Making the jump from a monetary standpoint is a decision you'd need to make as the 2008 will run around $20-$25,000 depending on the mileage, equipment and seller, with or without the extended warranty. Throwing money into an old vehicle isn't obnoxious; however there is a point of no return and that decision is yours to make.
Good luck

I don't know if this will help, but my 92 accord went through a few issues around 225-240K, but then has been pretty good since then. I am almost at 400K now.

It needed struts/springs, rotors, drums, upper ball joints and one wheel bearing. I went ahead and did most all of it and it was trouble free until about 350K when I needed my first new distro.

I did my last tranny about 150K and it is still good - switched to just regular old Dex/Merc III and it has lasted and lasted once the Z1 was out of it.

The extra 175K of driving my 92 ended up netting me about 60K by saving at least $550 per month for 7 years with some pretty good interest in 2004, 05 and 06... not so good on the interest lately.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
