5AT Upgrade Option's; Transmission Guru's Please Step up :-)

Searched around a bit, but did not find much. I will be going into a 2005 TL 5AT for rebuild/repair. Are there known OEM or aftermarket part upgrades to improve / enhance this transmission ?

Thanks,

Why did you make a new thread with the same question?

Breezy suggested a 2007 Accord transmission. From what I see that had a smaller 3.0L engine, rather than the 3.2L TL. 2005 TL Trans code is BDGA, 2007 Accord is BAYA or MAYA. Are folks making this swap because the Accord trans is better or just more available and lower cost ? I know 3rd clutch failure is common. Are factory replacement parts updated?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I haven't watched this video, but remember it from another old thread. There are also other videos beneath, all on Honda transmissions.....

Hope it helps.

If my trans goes, I think I would choose the rebuild route. I think. All depends on price.

Transmission Parts, Gearbox Spares, Transfer Case Parts, transfer Box Spares, Rebuild Kits, Rebuilt Transmissions, The American Powertrain Warehouse sells a few upgrades for the trans that help it last longer.

Superior Transmissions/ Trans Lab offers "upgrade kits"
by upgrade, I mean better converter charge, cooler ATF flows, better steels and frictions.

Here is a link to one product
Superior Transmission - Superior STL-HO5-388

it will help to give you a general idea of the parts that are "upgraded"

Forget about the 3.0 or 3.2 engine its only differences in bore and stroke but the block remain almost identical, The 06-07 Accord V6 AT has been redesigned to address the AT failure issues from 03-05, the housing bolt right on 3.2 TL the only thing you will have to swap over is Transmission Range Switch. People doing this because the failure rate in the Accord trans is much lower compare to 04-06 AT. 07-08 TL also receive redesign AT to address the AT failure.

Right, so does anybody know what was redesigned ? Valve body ? Clutch drums ? other ?
My information shows same TL trans from 2004-2008 BDGA (3.2L), 2007-2011 TL is BK3A (3.5L) or BK4A (3.7L). Do we know if the 2007 BDGA is improved over earlier models or is it the 3.5L & 3.7L models that are preferred to retrofit ?

Thanks,

the 07-08 TL AT actually came from modified RL four shafts design vs TL original 3 shafts design (I read that somewhere on Honda news).

I just tore down my 04 to 06 BDGA. The 3rd clutch was really burnt the rest looked good. The 07 BDGA has a completely different case. I am searching for upgrade parts now also. O-ring valvebody plugs can help with pressure loss. Still looking into other upgrades.

??? The person you just quoted correctly stated the 2004-2006 TL transmissions were problematic.
