5AT dropping out of Vtec?

5AT dropping out of Vtec?
I have a 2007 TL-S and have noticed that when I drive it hard, the car drops RPMs enough to leave vtec temporarily when it shifts gears. Even when I use manual shifts and shift right before the car hits the redline it still drops out of vtec. You can hear and feel the power difference when it changes. It is especially noticeable between first and second gear. I am not sure if this is normal or if I should be concerned about something. Any input or help is welcome. And I have done a search for multiple tags and haven't found anything on this topic. If there is already a thread a link would be great. Thanks in advance guys.

That's just normal spacing between gears, I believe they are spaced to put you right at the start of the power band. My sisters Si does this as well and it's even more pronounced in the Si than the TL because Si makes no power below VTEC.

I don't know for sure where the RPM's drop to if you shift at/near redline, but I do know that if you're flat on the gas in 1st, 2nd and 3rd, the car pulls all the way through each change.
By 3rd gear at VTEC you're doing 80 mph, so there's not enough room (under normal conditions, or even a 1/4 mile track) to see how hard it pulls 3rd to 4th (you'd be doing 100+ mph and at the 1/4 mile the TL-S AT is doing 97 - 98 MPH).

just went to the strip last night and I can say that by the end of the 1320, I was traveling 95.5 mph and almost through 3rd but not quite. (5AT)

Alright thanks guys. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't a problem. And I'm guessing there is no way to fix it? Its not a huge deal to me just figured if you could keep it right in vtec it would pull just a little harder through each gear ya know?

there's no way to fix it unfortunately. The 5AT just isn't made for high performance apparently or else Acura would have made it differently for the Type-S. The manual has a much better gear ratio and stays in vtec.

Spend a bunch of $$$$ on the JNC (??) tuner and drop the VTEC engaement point to ~4200 - 4500 rpm.
BTW - now you've got me wondering exactly where the rpm falls if you run right to the redline in the lower gear. I'm going to have to go out and find a place where I can check 1st --> 2nd and 2nd --> 3rd.
