3rd gen problematic?

Hello everyone
I am looking for a beater for work as my 06 Fusion has been absolutely horrible (9 times in the shop since new) and am looking for a replacement. I hate to drive my SC430 for the daily grind (though I know it will not break on me) as I prefer to keep it a weekend car plus with my mods I am only getting 18mpg. I looked at the 2nd gen TL but quickly dismissed it due to the ,"the trans will break issue." I am curious about the 3rd gen in terms of reliability. Any transmission (auto) issues noted for this generation TL? I do like what the car offers but do not want another unreliable car.
thanks in advance.

The third gen has been as solid as a rock so far. I have had no issues related to anything acura has done whatsoever with my tl. Only thing that may be a bother is the rattles. Sometime the clips break or get loose and you hear rattling noises. These can be easily fixed by you or the dealer ship, whichever you prefer. My 04 TL with 31K miles gets about 21 city and 32 highway (80 MPH). I enjoy it everyday and this car is pretty comfy for long trips. Lastly i just want to add, welcome to the forums, you can find a wealth of information here and a buch of members who want to help each other out.

Thanks for the input; I am on ClubLexus often but have little experience with the latest Acura models. Again-I will be putting over 300 miles a day on the car which is why the SC or my GX is out of the question. The TL seems to have everything I like in terms of safety, technology comfort, style, decent acceleration,etc... I would prefer to get another Lexus but do not see anything in the under 20k price range with decent MPG that I like (namely ES/IS300) for a preowned model. I will do some more reading here before biting.
Thanks again for the input

if you're driving that far every day ... the TL is definitely a match for you considering its a great comfortable ride. Mine's a LA daily driver, and I usually drive around 150 miles a day ... the car is definitely a reliable car in terms of performance, luxury and comfort. Acura is certainly up-to-par in terms of technology as well .
