3rd gear low RPM vibration

I have a 05 TL with Auto. I've noticed that while in 3rd gear and at low RPMs holding at a steady speed, the car vibrates. But if I step on the gas its gone. Any Ideas? I just got the car used.

so it's not just me then, I thought I had a tranny problem. I bought the car used and didn't notice it at first but lately I've been driving it and when it reaches about 3rd or 4th gear and 2500-3000 RPM the car is vibrating, its gone if I lift off the gas or step on the gas pedal. But if I am coasting it'll vibrate.

Just got my 07 TL this past weekend and I've been noticing that in third gear, between 25-30mph, the car/engine starts to vibrate as well. Any ideas?

I can't believe I couldn't find this thread before I posted this: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/new-owner-here-have-question-about-noise-vibration-when-accelerating-760794/

Anyway, I noticed the same thins at around 2k-3k rpm. I know I said 3k-4k in the other thread, but upon further inspection, it's just as the OP posted. I took my 07 into the shop today. A tech and I went for a test drive, he noticed it as well. So a day later he calls me and tells me that there is no fix and that it's considered a characteristic of this specific generation. Here is what's written on the repair invoice word for word:

Tech inspected and found nothing loose or any problem. Tech called Techline and they said it is a characteristic A-Pipe make a drone noise.

So I guess this is normal to most and abnormal to a few. I have a feeling the few that notice previously drove a very quiet car. I come from a ridgeline, which is uncharacteristically quiet for a Honda.

That is so BS! the noise is starting to really annoy me, I purchased the Drone Kit listed in one of the service bulletin. I am getting it installed this Friday so I'll see if it will help reduce it but I don't have my hopes really high on this fix.

There is a couple threads about this, did you try changing your tranny fluid and replacing the 3rd and 4th gear switches? that might help, let me look for the thread.

There you go, read that entire thread. https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/very-interesting-conversation-my-transmission-builder-tl-721508/

Cybertron, let us know if the kit was a fix, thanks.

I started getting the 3rd to 4th gear shudder at around 58k miles. I then did some research and decided to change the 3rd and 4th gear switches and did a 3x3 drain and refill of the Transmission Fluid (ATF). Did the switches first and car was still shuddering so I then did the 3x3 ATF change and it fixed the shuddering. Its been about 2 k miles and im still good, however, I have read some reports of shuddering coming back after 3k miles, which I hope does not happen. =)

If you have more than 50k miles on your car and a 3x3 or switch replacement has never been done, I recommend you do both. Both are easy DIY and will cost you about $100 and $80 respectively.

There is tons of good info about this in existing threads, including the one Fresh23 links to this thread, and I recommend you search the forums and read about it

Peace,

Rolan

I just did a transmission flush at the dealer, not the 3x3 because they wanted $300. Mine isn't shudering, its when I reach higher gears like 4th-5th and at 1500-2000 rpm the car makes a loud vibration/drone noise like a loud HUMMMMMMMMMMM very! annoying!

I am getting the Drone Kit installed tomorrow so I'll post back. Hopefully this fixes or helps reduce it. I don't want to replace the 3rd and 4th switch because I don't notice anything wrong with the tranny as of yet. But that will be something I will look into for my next maintenance

Ok, so I had the Kit installed yesturday and tested the car today, it seems like it helped, the vibration/drone is still there but only at a very specific speed and RPM rather before where it was anywhere between 60km/h-80km/h at 4-5th gear.

Its a cheap work around as there is no fix so I would recommend installing it.
