3rd brake light removal?

Hey guys, sorry if this is a repost on this subject, I couldn't seem to find it anywhere.

Is there a trick to removing the 3rd brake light in the rear window? I have a bulb out and I want to replace it. I tugged on it a bit last night but it seemed pretty snug so I just wanted to check on the forum first before I use 'excessive' force.

Not sure about the TL but most third brake light bulbs are accessible through the top of the trunk area, first before you go pulling on the light from the inside of the car, i would open the trunk take off the top liner of the trunk and see if the bulb comes out that way. Most hondas third brake light bulbs are accessible at the top of the trunk (rear deck) and just twist out!

The 3rd brake light is at the top of the rear window................

It's secured with two white plastic clips and one metal clip..............should pop right off and not be glued....

The Third Brake Light on top of the rear window uses LED modules.

I would investigate a ground problem or loose wire if I were you.

Better yet, If it's still covered by warranty, take it to the dealer.

Okay, I got it out last night and discoverd that it was an LED... only half of it is working. Does this mean the other half if burned out and needs to be replaced? The cheapest one I have found is $123.50

I never noticed that on the tl! Most cars are located atop the rear deck.

Seems to me that it wouldnt be called a HIGH MOUNT STOP LIGHT if it werent HIGHER than the rear deck. In my opinion it is most visible that way.

Thats the exact problem I am researching now. My friend has an 04' TL just like mine, and his brake lights only illuminate as bright as the park lights. (I hope that makes sense.) At first his was the only case I had seen, but I saw another instance where a TL had that problem and in both cases, the HIGH MOUNG LED was not on. Is this bound to happen to mine?

I took it down myself and the dealer wanted $270.00 CAD for a replacement. :-( I could not believe my ears!!!!! I stuck it back in last night and it worked intermittently and it depends on how I brake with my paddle, the light comes on! I suspect the fault is at the moving part of the switch located close to the brake paddle. Anyone has any information on that? It is natural to take down the light to have it replace, but I suspect most of us having problem with it is not the LED light but the problem that I am having.

I had a similar problem with the driver's side tail light when the car was about 6 months old. When the headlights were turned on, it only lit up to about half the brightness of the passenger's side tail light. Breaking brightness wasn't an issue however. Dealer replaced the whole tail light assembly.
