2008 TL Type S - Manual
2008 TL Type S - Manual
Hey guys,
I am currently in PEI but my car was bought in Calgary. Now I think I should get the TSB done for the 3rd gear replacement. Sometimes it grinds and is a bit of a challenge to go in third which seems to be a problem a lot of people have had with this model and trainee. I have looked through forums but I was wondering anyone with the same model the results that people had seen after the work was performed. Also there is no dealer in Prince Edward Island. I have to go to Halifax. Is there a way that I can get them to comp my trip for fuel and so forth.
Appreciate the feedback,
I am new and this is a great forum!

Ya, I agree with Mr. South there, the GM SM fluid seems to really do the trick.
However, I asked my Acura dealer about it, and the service manager referred me to a mechanic [scarece crew, it was lunch time] and he told me not to use none Honda fluids in a car that's under warranty, because should I have a transmission failure, and they discover that it wasn't honda fluids, they might not do the repair under warranty.
So, I gave him the raised eyebrow look, said a long 'OOOOooookay' went back to my Service Advisor, and told him to note in my little 'file' the mileage of my car and the date when I came to bring up the 3rd gear issue. [the car had very little miles] I didn't want them to start blaming me for either driving it too hard, or say Ohh, that's normal wear and tear, it's not covered.
I forgot to add: the Mechanic guy said that they would have to somehow 'show' that i wasn't running honda fluids, so he said I can always 'risk' it.

I think the fluid is more of a cover for the time being. What I was told by the facilities manager was that if something went wrong and Acura Corporate wanted to take levels of my fluid. they would know that it was not acura or honda fluid for a fact and they could void the warranty. So to be safe I have 27,000kms on the car an the warranty is good til 96000 so I am going to go ahead with the fix for the trainee. If it wasn't under warranty I would definitely go with synchromesh fluid fix. Anyway I can get Acura to comp this because there is no dealer ship in PEI only in Halifax.
Please advise,
Please advise,
I have a 08 TL-S MT and I got the TSB done for it. Imo, if you know a reliable dealer and your car is under warranty there's no reason not to get the actual physical fix for this problem.
Before driving my car used make me a bit depressed because I paid a lot of money for this car and went out of my way to look for and bargain on the MT.
Initially after the fix you need about 4~5 hours of driving time to break in the new syncros. It felt a bit rough in the 2~3~4 shifts but after a day or two of going to work my shifter was buttery smooth. Felt like a completely new car! Gone now is my hesitation whenever I drop it into 3rd gear. I recommend getting the TSB done.
