2008 TL Type S, 52k, transmission issue

The car has the 5-speed automatic transmission. Everything on the car is stock. My father was the original owner.
Anyway, the downshift into 2nd gear is not smooth. At 25mph, there is a noticeable drag as the car goes into 2nd. It almost feels like the brakes come on at 25mph and quickly slow the car to 20mph, but I'm not using the gas or the brakes. Should there be that much braking from the transmission? I'm not used to driving an automatic.

The TL-S does have firmer downshifts and engine braking than the regular TL. I would advise you do a 3x3 fluid change since the car has such low miles and also replaced the 3rd and 4th gear switches. The combo should help improve shift quality and comfort. Use Acura/Honda DW-1 fluid and genuine pressure switches.

Thank you for the reply. I had to look up the 3x3 fluid change. Seems like mostly a Honda/Acura thing.

these cars have grade logic and will absolutely feel like the brakes are being applied on that downshift. the 08 trannys are pretty solid. 06 and earlier not so much

Hi there!!! About 2/3 months ago our 07 TL type S 119,000 miles started having similar issues we changed the 3 transmission pressure switches & trans fluid change didn’t change the issue then discovered in this forum that some we’re having similar issues and found results from changing the Neutral Safety gear Switch. So we changed that that, now she’s good as new. I could kick myself for not finding the NSS before changing the 3 pressure switches since those we’re definitely a more challenging DIY. Hope this helps
