I would trouble shoot the spark plugs and coilpacks first. if those come back clear, I then would get a compression test and leak down test to confirm if lost compression due to the money shift.

or could be a catalytic converter problem
who knows!?

you'll need to trouble shoot for these things

the two primary cats could be bad.
then check for compression and do a leak down test.

six speeds can mechanically over-rev and fuck the heads. (piston to valve contact)

it's a 9 year old car. things go bad. so, if it is the cat. change out the cat

a cat going bad indicates other problems...mainly fuel....
what kind of fuel are you using?
and it's possible the previous owner used the wrong grade of gas or performed the money shift.

it's a 9 year old car.
