2008 Acura TL Type S: Oil pump started leaking
2008 Acura TL Type S with 75K miles.
Anyway, thought the oil pan gasket has gone bad since I saw oil leaking near the oil filter. When I removed the oil pan I was able to see it wasn't the oil pan that was leaking, it was the Oil pump.
Since the oil pump is part of the timing belt, I'm just gonna have the timing belt, water pump, etc changed while the Oil pump is fixed.
This is the worse model I've had since owning a 93 GSR, 01 GSR and 04 TSX. Makes me want to trade it in for a Lexus 250.

Anyone know how long Oil Pumps suppose to last.
I've owned other Acura models and never had this issue after having them over 100K. Seems like Honda brand is going down.

Called Acura Customer service and they didn't or offer any help for being a loyal Acura customer.
Wifes 2004 Lexus IS300 is way more reliable than my Acura right now.
2008 Acura TL Type S issues:
1: Creaky dash board
2: Strut mounts gone bad
3: Engine mount gone bad
4: Power steer hose leaked - Covered by recall but had to fight it because car was not in the recall list for some reason.
5. Power steering pump leak.
6. Lastly, Oil pump leak

Gear pumps will usually last forever (given they have proper lubrication). Are you sure the oil is not coming from the gasket or even the O ring?
Good luck with the fix

Yes sir.. At first I thought it was the oil pan to. But took off the oil pan and found out the oil was coming from the pump.

The big issues for the 3G seem to be the cracking dashboards (not on my TL), control arm bushings (mine are cracked, but they don't cause problems), engine motor mounts (I don't know), and the power steering o-ring recall. That doesn't seem too bad to me, which is why I'm a happy 3G owner. But, to each their own!

Yes sir, 5K is a right price for this junk. LOL.. I've owned an 04 TSX and that had a bit of few problems. Especially that damn Clutch Master Cylinder Honda is using these days. Made in China/Mexico or somewhere out there. And they be creeking like crazy and they want us to lube it.
Ohh don't forget bird beak style they have designed for the current Acura TL's and TSX's. What in the world???? Not sure what to call it
This weekend will be checking out the Lexus IS250 F sport package. Saw one on the road, looks sexy..

Are you sure that it is the oil pump and not the front main seal?
In any case, just accelerate your timing belt service and change the oil pump at the same time - you are already in there.

That's what I did, resealed oil pump and did the timing belt and everything included for the 105k service. Made sense and good precaution to do it early since I live in the Sunny state Arizona.

Whats this i hear about a recall on the power steering pump o-ring? I just noticed mine was leaking but havent had the car long enough to be notified of any recalls. Should i just call my local acura dealer

the O ring is pretty simple to replace. You may want to google search it and there should be a DIY on it.
But the power steering hose is different. You may want to call Acura customer service to check your VIN for the recall.

i thought my leak was coming from the oil pan gasket too as it was right by the oil filter area. now i heard from an acura parts worker that its more likely the oil pump that's leaking, and according to this thread he may be right

we need recall for 04-08 TL oil pump gasket
All of you 04-08 acura tl owners. We should have ask recall for this pre matured wear on oil pump seal causing excessive oil leak that might cause fire.

mine is leaking also. It is very slow though and I never have oil on garage floor and level is never down....just smell burned oil and can see oil around filter and surrounding area.
