2007 TL Electrical Issue?
2007 TL Electrical Issue?
I've been trying to find a fix for this issue that's driving me nuts. I think it's possibly electrical, but can't pinpoint. Here's what happens, I get into the car and drive to a destination, when I get there I close and lock the car with key FOB. When I return the following can happen:
1) The key fob will not unlock the car(it has a new battery and issue continues) and I have to use the key to manually unlock the driver door
2) The car will not start...it's completely dead(replaced car battery six months ago) and will not turn on until I open the driver door again and SLAM the door shut(WTF?)
3) The car starts and resets the Trip mileage and also activates the anti-theft radio(requires code to unlock before listening again to the radio)
Maybe this is all related to the car alarm/sec system? But...
Three other things happen when I'm driving the car:
1) The car will go completely dead and lose all power(this happened once doing 60MPH on tollway).
2) I'll be stopped at a light and car will reset the electrical system(car stays on) and the Nav flashes/reboots
3) I'll be at a light and the car will be in D and feels like it is in between N and D...revs, but barely moves forward until i shift into N and go back into D.
Sounds like a lot is wrong with the car, but everything else works great! Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to Adv Auto parts to get free diag reading, but some ideas on what to troubleshoot would be good too. Thanks!

How many mileage does your TL have right now?
Shot in the dark but it reminders me of my bother's car; which the ECU was the corrupt. It gave some of the symptoms you describled i.e. shut off while rolling, wont start from time to time, alarm wouldnt sync.

Second, check for corrosion on the cables-- the positive cable may be corroded inside the sheathing, behind the clamp, but corrosion will start at the clamp.
Then go check the fuse boxes and ECU.
As the others mentioned, a bad battery or bad battery connection will result in all kinds of gremlins and odd codes.

First thing you should do: wiggle the battery clamps to see if one of them is loose and not secured to the battery post. Then check the other end-- ground and starter-- to see if the battery cables are loose at the other end.

This behavior is very similar to how mine behaved when the positive terminal clamp was slightly loose and corroded.
So I went out and checked the attery terminals. the positive had some corrosion on it and i cleaned that up, then i checked the negative terminal/cable and yup, it was loose. I cleaned the negative terminal and tightened it up and now we'll see if the problem persists. Makes sense as to why slamming the door would temp "fix" the issue. Thanks for all the advice! I'll update if anything changes in the future regarding this issue.
