2007 Acura TL Timing Belt 7 Yrs or 105K??

Hey just wanted some of your guy's input on a timing belt issue? I was at the dealer and they said that since my TL is going on 7 years that I should be thinking about getting the timing belt replaced, my car only has 53,000 miles on it I thought it was at 105,000 miles till replacement. Is this valid? Could in snap? I don't want my engine messed up what do you guys think?

My acura dealer said I could go 10 years or 120K, I changed my belt at 118K and 11years... no regrets on my part...

Asked and answered about a billion times already. Read your owner's manual: When the MID shows a "4".

Is that a timing belt warning? How would it know it's about to snap?

They will typicaly say 7yrs or 105k miles. Whichever comes first. The service indicator on the MID normaly shows up around 105k miles. Its a major service , so do some reasearch to find out what it entails!

no the MID 4 is not an impending warning of the TB about about to snap. it is part of the car's maintenance minder system. key word being "maintenance".

your car will be fine. there are a ton of threads regarding this EXACT question. i have an 05, super low miles...i'm at 8.5 yrs or almost 9 (based on production date)...my TB service is on the radar but i'm not freaking out about it. at the latest, i'll go 10 yrs. if i wait until 105k...the car will be 15-20 yrs old.

the OM states the TB service be done when the MID flashes 4 with whatever A or B service you happen to need at that time (again the car will tell you). there is no time interval noted. yes, age can affect the TB since rubber can deteriorate with time as well. there have been many members here who have waited 8-9-10 yrs...with low mileage cars. the old TB looks great after replacement.

then the argument of "extreme" conditions comes into play, which i won't even touch on, since i'm sure someone will bring it up and then have it debated all over again.

if you're freaked out about the time thing, then do what you are most comfortable with. change it, wait to change it...your choice. make your educated decision based on what you have read about other people's experiences (here and google hunts). it's not like the TB snaps when the car turns 7 and you're SOL. there have been others who have gone the other extreme and pushed the mileage 150k, 180k, 200k before replacing. again, your choice. yes, if the TB snaps, engine damage which is more to fix than to replace the TB.

I have 49k and I'm not planning on it anytime soon
Inspect the belt. Give it a visual...
Check for wear/cracks etc

In my case, i bought an 04 last year, its now 122k, my guess is its already been done, but i might have to do it again since i always thought you had to change it every 60k ... some of you say you wait till the "4" appears on the MID, how can i accuratly check the belt to make sure i can just wait till the maintenance msg pops up ?

there is no way to visually tell the age of a belt. unless it's covered with oil or contaminated you cant judge when to replace it visually.

I would assume that the warning was reset from before you bought it and that the belt was replaced.

If it was changed when it was needed, you shouldnt need it for another ~105k or whenever the 4 comes up again.

So I guess it just depends on wear and tear I still have another year roughly so not too worried about it right now just wanted to get some thoughts. I just thought it didn't have to be done until you hit the 105k mark...

if you do a lot of short trips it is better to get it done sooner than later starting the engine is when the belt gets the most stress..

The way I read it, you almost have a better chance winning the lotto than your t-belt actually causing an issue. What we need in threads like this is a count of how many members here waited too long... *silence* *crickets* *silence*

10 years is fine, unless you think your luxury car is a race car and beat on it daily.

So I shouldn't worry about this then? Like the above said has anyone had any issues with waiting to late to change their belt?

Since this got bumped, I'm going to whine that I just had the B4 service reminder light up this weekend. 7 years, 10 months, 104,580 miles. Also need to replace the brakes. And brake fluid. Better crack open 'ol piggy!
