2006 TL rear speaker issue

Hey guys, need some help.

My rear speakers barely put out any sound all of a sudden. No matter what the source is, CD, Radio, Ipod the sound is barely coming out of the rear speakers. When i go into the settings for balance and fade, i have it set for the middle, so equal to all, if I set it to rear, i can barely hear it, so it's definitely getting some of it. I don't believe it's a Dolby issue, I tried pushing 4, Dobly sound is next to it, but I think it's only for tape. I've never played a tape on it before.

I am not thinking that it's the Interior fuse 5 - Radio, but will check later today to validate.

Any ideas? I have never done anything to the wiring of the car, the IPOD hookup was there when installed and I have been able to use it with my IPOD.

Try turning Dolby PLII off and fading all the way to the rear. I noticed that my rear speakers put out almost nothing when it's on.

Then again, I drive with the fader set to almost max front because soundstage, or at least my attempt to create one.

How do I turn it off, my TL is a 2006, so I don't believe I have Dolby PLII. Although there is a little Dolby sign next to CD 4/Radio 4 present button, but pressing that when IPOD is playing does nothing. Pressing it when it's the radio, obviously switches to preset 4...and so on...
So if I do have Dolby PLII, perhaps there is a different way of turning it off? There is no other setting on the screen that I can see...

In the "sound" settings turn off the simulated surround sound. I found I had a lot better performance from the rear speakers with that off. If you have a 3G TL, then you have that setting.

I believe that started with the 2007 version, I don't have that setting on the screen unless there is another screen I am not aware of. I'll take a picture of it later today.

Ok, that may be. I didn't know that the '07 and up had different stereo settings though. In any case, in my car I press "sound" then the down arrow and then turn "Dolby Pro Logic II" on or off. When it's off my speakers sound better.

I think your factory amp in the kick panel is giving out.

So it wouldn't have anything to do with a fuse? And speaking of, how does one take them out, I cannot do it with my fingers or a screwdriver. Please help

Back to the amp...is it possible to unplug the RCA or whatever wire is going to the fronts and put those to the rears, to validate it's the amp and not the speakers/connection to them?

There is a faint noise going to the rear, as I do hear the sub a little...

Thanks guys

You could unplug the amp connectors and swap some wires, reversing the front and rear speakers. I don't have a pinout diagram handy, but its possible. However, I would assume your amp, like many others on AZ, is starting to die. Symptoms include one side/set of speakers getting quieter over time. Sometimes they sound ok, other times they don't, etc.

My amp is the same way. There's a company in Florida that repairs them for $150 and then they're pretty much good for the usable life of the car. I can't remember the name of the company or their website, though.... so I'm not helping much lol.

I wonder what the repair entails... If its replacing some transistors I think I could do it myself for like $20
