2006 Acura TL MT - Acceleration issues - Rev's don't match with speed

Hi Everyone -

I just registered to this forum today and this is my first question. I recently purchased a used 2006 Acura TL with manual transmission last September. The car currently has about 65000 miles. I have put around 8k miles myself. This week i started noticing pick up/acceleration issues in my car especially from gears 3 to 6. When I am on fourth or 5th gear and hit on the acceleration paddle, my car revs significantly 6000 rpm, however the mpg's/speed only increases and creeps up slowly. It feels like my car is losing power. My car's performance was not like this before. The pickup is still good on first and 2nd gears and I think it does match the RPM. I am not sure if this is a transmission/filter/spark plugs or a clutch issue. I would greatly appreciate any advice. I do plan on getting it checked this week and have an oil change which is due but also wanted to get your thoughts and insights on what could be wrong based on your experiences.

Thank you!!

Slipping clutch. Get it replaced/fixed before you ruin the Flywheel. GL.

This is definitely a slipping clutch. I'll save you the searching...

LUK makes the Acura/Honda clutch and flywheel. You can get the clutch kit (part number 08-047) for under $150 online. Call around and get a quote for labor to install it. It's gonna be spendy because you have to drop the sub-frame and transmission to replace it.

If you need a flywheel, it's gonna cost another $250 on ebay. The old flywheel cannot be resurfaced (according to Honda) because it's a dual-mass design.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like I need to empty my wallet. Time to find a dealer in Downers Grove, Illinois that can do this for a reasonable price. I hope I do not need to replace the flywheel.

Thanks! I just got a a labor quote for $600 from my mechanic who I regularly go to. Is is too steep or sounds about right? I know I probably could have done it elsewhere between 400 to 450 (mechanics on craigslist) but reliability was a concern cause I am not sure what the margin of error is on a clutch job. OEM Acura parts are about 400 dollars for the clutch kit including the release and pilot bearings. I was thinking, should i just spend $200 dollars extra to get a performance clutch from this link http://www.clutchcityonline.com/prod...EC/SA401.shtml or should i buy a cheaper one LUK from parts geek or should i just stick with OEM from Acura. Just confused. Any thoughts?

If you trust the guy, you may as well spend the extra money for quality labor.

As far as parts cost, you are incorrect. The OEM parts are the parts I posted above. Just cause they come in an Acura box, doesn't mean they are any different....just more expensive. OEM parts are $150 (in an LUK box). Don't spend the extra hundreds of dollars for unproven performance stuff.

This is what the $150 kit includes:
