2006 6 M/T Occ. Trouble into Reverse
Have had the car 1 year. 32km total, had 3rd gear replaced at dealer under warranty tranny feels great, absolutely love the vehicle but occasionally can't find reverse. Not from inexperience as my wife has never even owned an auto tranny, we've have had a Maxima SE 5 Speed since new and never had a problem. Sometimes the only way to find reverse is to turn it off. Anybody else had a similar experience?

Thanks for the reply. I should have noted that is my first action when it won't gp to reverse. Secondly I'll try going to second gear(twice at the suggestion of an Acura Tech.) prior to trying reverse again but still there's times when w/o turning off you can't get reverse.

After starting, when it doesn't go into reverse, try letting the clutch out when in neutral first then shift into reverse. Don't have a MT TL, but one of other cars has a 5 speed that we've owned for 21 years, and on very rare occasions after starting with the pedal to the floor, I'll try reverse and it's a no go, then I go to first and sometimes that will work and sometimes I actually had to let the clutch engage slight in first to get the gears to move slightly, then it will slide into reverse. Not a trans problem, at least in our case, as it has done this since day one.
Another idea as most like to leave the trans in gear when the car is off, put it in reverse before shutting the car off.
The reverse lock out feature on the TL is to engage when the vehicle is over 9 mph, but if it malfunctions, then there is a problem..
