2005 TL WONT START one click

Ok, I read a few other posts but my situation is a little different than all of them. Drove my car to get chinese tonight , started fine and drove fine. When I came out to start it, all my inside stuff turned on but I got one click and the engine would not start. This past week my car was at the dealership to get the power steering hose recall fixed, they gave me a full "report" and one of the things listed was that my battery was good. My tl has 88000 miles on it, a battery less than two years old and the terminals are clean. I also tried my spare key and that didnt work. Is it most likely the starter?Could the dealership have accidentally done something? As always thanks in advanced.....

Classic starter issue. Not uncommon 2004 and 2005 3Gs. Bang on the starter while someone cranks and you have a good chance of it starting. You can buy a new, non-OEM starter on Amazon for ~$85 and there is a good DIY on the forum if you are so inclined.

Ok so this morning I went back to the car and the headlights don't dim when I go to start it. I banged on the starter and nothing I'm having it towed.

You have to bang on the starter WHILE someone is turning the switch. It won't always work. And, it might not be the starter.

Yeah that's what I did. The old lady was turning the key while I was banging on it. However when the tow truck driver came he turned the key about ten times and it started then I drove it to the shop .

If it is the starter can I get by with a remanufactured one with a warranty or do I have to bite the bullet and get a 600 dollar oem one?

You can get an OEM one for around $250

Also, a reman'd one should be fine, too. They're fairly easy to change.

So after cleaning my battery terminals, the car started just fine for a day. But just today the car sometimes does not start, it makes no noise just doesnt start. I would have to turn the ignition a few times before it starts. Other times the car starts just fine. Any reason as to why this is happening?

Replace your starter. It's probably the starter solenoid failing or getting stuck. Try having someone tap on it with a mallet/hammer while you turn the key to see if it starts.

So, after you replaced the starter, the issue still has been happening? I'm confused.

If, after you replaced your starter, the issue still occurs, the next spot to look would be the ignition switch.

Oh, well then you should probably replace it before it starts to happen more frequently.
