Unhappy 2005 TL Misfire

hi Everyone,

Thank you for your help in advance. Hope you can share your experience.

My 2005 TL is about 64000 now. I had my car to do oil change just the beginning of Jan by a Honda dealer.
It has been running fine until last Wednesday... all in a sudden.

Here are the symptoms. After 30 min drive in the evening, I felt the engine is kind of shaky. It was at the stop light that time. I thought I did not hold the brake right. So I "press" it harder, and pulled the transmission from D to P and back to D. During the shifting I felt the shaky again and I knew it is abnormal. Greenlight was on and I started to roll the car again. But I felt the car was kind of "jittering" in between moving and stopping.

Great I parked my car safely. So I turned off the engine and restart it. I heard it trying to start with some abnormal shaking and noise, but it finally died and could not start.

After cooling it off after hours, I re-started it agian. It ran well in the first few seconds...but started to "die" again.

The funny part is... I dropped it off at a mechanic home. He said the car was running fine so far, but he agreed with me that the car did have some problem while he saw me fail to start the engine one time. Also, when the engine was kind of "dying" and I tried to make just a U turn, I felt I had a hard time to control the car's speeding...sometimes it tried to move out of my control, sometimes it just could not move I thought.

Based on the experience I put down... may you guess what problem with my car?

Hope you can help....

Thank you vey much.

Takumi

I saw a regular yellow engine light...I am not sure if it is a regular icon or telling me something wrong with the engine? Thanks for your response.

That light means the computer found something wrong. Take your car to almost any auto parts store and have them check for codes. Let us know what the code/s is/are.

May I ask how to get the code? Or it really needs some professionals to get?

I dropped it off to someone who worked in Honda. He said he tried couple runs so far and he could not find any symptom.... He was going to LA so I do not think he is in the mood of fixing. But I will definitely ask him for the code and post here.. I will post that the eariliest on Wed.

I hope the problem I am having is common.

Thank you again, and talk to you on Wednesday.

Any auto parts store will read codes for free. It won't cost you a thing to find out what the code is.

The light you see looks like this?

IIRC, the only message displayed on the 05 is "check gas cap", so no, you won't see any malfunction message. The Check Engine Light (CEL) alerts you to a problem. The car's computer (ECM/PCM) stores error codes related to the CEL. There is a port underneath your dash on the left hand side where an OBD code reader can be plugged in to "read" the codes. This is what the auto parts store will do for you for free.

You're in the right forum for this.

Let us know what you find out

No error and no fix yet

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for any delay. My friend, who worked in the dealership service department, cannot find the code. He could not diagnose what the problem is. HE said he has been drivng my car for over 100 miles since I dropped off my car and he really could not see or hear any problem!!!

He just helped me to replace the "star plug" which cost me about $100...which I really do not care, but I am still worried the problem comes back. This is my third day driving it...with my Trip___ A Plus membership card with me in case I need towing. I am still so anxious it will die on me any moment.

I will keep you posted once something new happens on me.

I have a hard time to find my own post. Is there anyway to find the discussom I post here easily?

Thank yOU!
