Talking 2005 TL Future?

Hey everyone,
So I am at a loss and would like some expertise. I have an 05 Acura TL that's right past 180k miles. The transmission has busted although it really only seems to be 5th gear, as it is drive able in every other gear it just doesn't shift as smoothly as it used to. So here are my two questions:
1. Has anyone ever had a transmission replacement done on the third generation TL's ie does the entire transmission need to be replaced?
2. I am right on the verge of getting an amazing job and I really dont want to buy a new car right now. However if I did, it would be a rinky dink reliable thing and total waste of money. Not to mention the down payment I would put down would fix up the entire transmission and then some. If I did fix the transmission do you guys think it would run properly for another year? The only other things wrong with the car are, I have to replace one engine mount and a few things on the suspension.

Thanks for the feedback

Welcome to the 3G transmission failure stage. Yes the 04-06 Autos are ticking time bombs and almost every 04-06 Auto owner has had to replace the transmission. Just replace it with a AV6 trans and drive it for another 150k issue free. Will cost you around $3000 to fix it but sure beats a $20,000 car payment.

To expand upon what @BreezyTL said, look for a 5-Speed automatic transmission from a 2006-2007 Honda Accord V6. This transmission, which carries a manufacturing code of BAYA, is often referred to as the "AV6" (Accord V6) transmission; it is the latest version of the H5 transmission which is bolt compatible with your 2005 TL.
