2005 TL electrical problems

SORRY FOR IT BEING LONG! Don't own an Acura just helping a friend!

My friend is having issues with her TL. She said that her electronics would flicker in-and-out, CEL, VSA triangle caution symbol (don't own a TL). When she got to my house I noticed the battery had corrosion and the top of it looked and smelled like burning battery acid.

I replaced the battery and the same warning lights were on in the dash. We let the car sit for about an hour and started it again and everything seemed fine. When it first happened after I swapped the first battery we took it to the dealership and they couldn't find anything wrong since it wasn't showing those symptoms when we got there. We also replaced the alternator.

She drove the car for about a month, and said that the same issues were happening with the electronics flickering, but this time she noticed a loss in power in her car, and at one point the gauges stopped working and went idle even though she was still driving. She got to work tried to restart and the car's engine wouldn't turn over but all the electronics came on. She went into work got out hours later and the car started again, and no warnings.

It now has happened again and we can't pinpoint the problem...

Her battery looks again like it is burning, so I'm assuming there is a misconnection somewhere or something is wrong electrically obviously. She says the problem happens when she hits over like 80mph+

TIA

Why don't you start with basic's, Throw in a better quality battery or the oem one. Then do a charging system test to see what's going on. Leave the terminals disconnected for at least 5 mins to clear out any system codes. When you have done all this come back and tell me the results of the system test and how the vehicle is running. You always do basics 1st before going and poking around.

Welcome to the forum.

I deleted your post in the TSX forum, and your other thread in this forum, since one thread should be enough to get you some answers to your problem.

Out of curiosity, what is the color spec or where did she get this car? The corrosion etc looks almost identical to that of my TL after it was half submerged in water by an overflowing lake. So almost identical I'm wondering if she purchased my car from the used lot who'd been trying to sell it out of the Philly area, or if her car also had water damage?

Like I said before we had switched out the battery the first time this happened and when we started it with the new battery the CEL, VSA lights were still on, after letting the car sit for about an hour we started it again and it seemed to be fine.

After about a month of using the NEW battery these problems started re-occurring. So I did already do the basic and now the problem has arrived again, so maybe a bad connection bad ground wire? bad positive terminal connection... Just trying to see if anyone has had similar problems. Checked all fuses they are intact.

Thx admin, no problem

Try sanding down the ring terminals?

Unhappy Me Too

I started having the same issues with my 04 TL yesterday. My navi screen started cutting in and out, then the XM started doing the same. I was finally able to turn the audio off, but then after a flicker, it came back on. Today I was pulling out of the parking lot, and after giving the car a little gas the entire dash (all gauges, clock, nav screen, A/C) went dead and then came back on. WTH is going on??

1> Sand down the terminals
2> Put some battery jelly on the terminals
3> Replace the shitty Ground wire

You should be good...

I think you should check the Altenator output, if the battery is being burned like that, it sounds like it could be over charging. I would also have the charging circuit wiring checked out for shorts, and also check all the grounds, including the fuse box and relay panel. I had a similar problem with my honda accord and it turns out there was a short in my fuse panel. these are just some possible causes. I hope this helps.
