2004 TL Trunk Problem

My trunk only can be opened by pushing the button on my keys. The switch in the glove box is set so that the trunk should open when I press the button below the dash. The trunk won't open when this button is pressed. Anyone know what I should do?

try setting the switch the other way, if that doesn't do it then the harness on the backside of the switch may have become unplugged or the trunk button harness has become unplugged.

Have you had the air filters changed recently, any rattle hunting done recently?

I checked the back of the trunk switch and everything seemed to be plugged in. Could the problem be at the other end? Something to do with the trunk latch?

Checked fuse #8, not it. Might it be one of the fuses in the interior, if so what number, I can't seem to find anything online.

Double check the coupler on both the trunk lid opener switch and the selector switch in the glovebox. You didnt specifically state that you checked both. If the couplers show no bent pins or frayed wires on the back side of the coupler then. Fuse 8 is the only fuse to the trunk latch soleniod.

If you have a digital multimeter you can check the trunk opener switch on the drivers side undergarnish for continuity when pressed to determine if the switch is still operational. If the switch is good. I would do the same with the switch in the glove box. If all that is good then im sorry its gonna get dirty. The trunk latch itself is ok since you CAN get it to work. The switch signals go to something known as the drivers MICU (multi integrated control unit). It acts as the body electrical master computer. The computer is in the drivers side under dash fuse box. The next thing other than replacing the entire fuse box is to check the couplers on the fuse box. Your going to be looking for a 20P White coupler which is located right next to the OBD-II coupler. Check this coupler using the same techniques as the couplers to the switches. If this coupler is not the issue. Your dealer will be the next best bet since they have a diagnostics tool which can read button inputs from any button on the car through the MICU. They can tell you if the MICU is recieving the input commands or not.

Its not fuse 8 unless your door locks, audio unit security and keyless buzzer dont work as well.

^The valet key doesn't open the trunk.
I would have guessed the plug behind the button came off as well, but I guess thats not it.
