2004 TL Paint defect?

The paint on my hood has all these white crack looking things in it. It looks like the fiberglass is cracking, but the hood is metal. It looks like small white scratches all over. Also, the front bumper looks faded & not healthy at all. I am the second owner & the original owner had a front license plate on it & the area where the plate was looks new. But the rest of the bumper is crap & the paint is even chipping off of it & I'm filling in the spots with a touch-up marker. Didn't know if anyone else has had this issue? The car has never been wrecked or re-painted. It is a 2004 in Nighthawk Black Pearl. I'll try to get some pics up ASAP. I have a friend who does body work on the side & said he can re-paint the hood & bumper for $750. I just wanted to see if anyone else has had this issue & if you know what it is, or what might cause it? Thanks.

Honda paint sux a$$!! The white scratches on the hood are most likely from the clear coat cracking. Since you have a 2004, the faded paint on the bumper is probably just from wear and tear. Not every 2004 will be going thru the same thing as there are many factors like weather conditions, where the car is parked, how many washes it's been thru, using the brush at the car wash, and so on. The paint chips are probably started from rock chips and then increased in size by the wind blowing against the paint.

Have the same 04' NBP TL with the cracking clear. It started just after I bough the car in June of 07'. The car was built in June of 04', so it only took 3 years for the problem to show up. I had the dealer look at it while the car was still under warranty, but they wouldn't cover it. My auto body friend used to do Saturn warranty work and said that Saturn would cover similar defects. Kinda crappy that Acura wouldn't stand behind their crap paint job.

That probably could have been argued. We've gotten 06,07 civics at the shop even now, and Honda will still cover their paint defect. These cars get it pretty bad. Roof, trunk and hood peels like a b****.

i recently purchased a 2010 black tl sh-awd and have the exact same issue. the white "scratches" are on everything metal, but the door jams and areas not exposed are fine. it seems to be under the clear coat as everything is smooth to the touch. at first i thought it just needed to be detailed, but that is not the case. many of the people i have talked to, including acura personnel, have said they have "never seen anything like this before". anyways, they have my car as i type and i am waiting to hear back. as a side note, i have found this on the acura warranty page:
Please note, to retain full warranty coverage, body panels replaced due to accident or damage, must be genuine Acura parts or Acura-approved parts. Also, paint damage caused by road debris, acid rain, tree sap, bird droppings and industrial fallout are not covered by this warranty." i believe my car should be warrantied, but we shall see........

Don't forget that the clear is more than one layer...

Nighthawk Pearl is notorious for paint issues, sounds like the clear coat is going. Not to mention the paint (actually the clear coat) is terrible to polish, most polishes stick to it and won't wipe off.

Sounds like you are going to need a repaint.

Same here, I just bought my 04 NHBP TL friday and noticed the hood was the worse about at the bottom of the hooding going up, I kept thinking what the previous owners could have done to manage this. But now I feel better, maybe a nice polish will help make it less noticable?

I'll try to hit mine with some Meguiars #105, and if that doesn't cut it i'll just take my time and grab some touch up paint and go to town.

They blamed my clear coat failure on industrial fallout.....whatever Acura, your paint is shit and everybody knows it but you.....
