the gas tank hold 17 gallons of fuel MAX. however gas tanks are designed to have extra space in them so any fuel vapors will come to the top and not cause excessive pressure on any components. as well all the EVAP sensors and stuff are located there to make sure the fuel tank isn't leaking any vapors.

i've filled up 14 gallons before, but I was in the reserve fuel space. I think the max fuel capacity while allowing all the proper room is about 14.5 gallons

try pushing your luck one day and see how far you can go before you fill up. reminds me of that seinfeld episode.

Many threads on this subject. Most everyone (including me) gets surprised initially. IIRC, there's a thread in here where some owners took their Distance-to-empty reading into negative territory (like -40). Not good for the car, but what the heck. You'll get used to only putting in 12-13 gallons. For an 8 yr old car (and aging more every day), I'm just happy that everything reads correctly (or at least consistently)...

It's a common issue with the gas gauge. My needle is NEVER on the F mark and when I fill, it's usually between 10-12 gallons. No biggey, doesn't hurt me any.

I'm usually at 12-13. The only time I put in 14 was when the needle was on E.

Next time the light comes on and the MTE is 0, drive for another 40-50 miles and you'll put 17 gal in the car.

As the following thread states, the subject has been beaten to death:

Once it says zero miles to empty you have 45-55 more miles to go depending on current mpg's. At that point I zero out my trip mileage counter and use that to gauge my real miles to empty. In case I'm not near a station I like.

Plus, Undying Dreams, I WANT YOUR IRON MAN AVATAR!! Where can I get it?

I live in brooklyn too and I have a 07 TL. Our cars go through gas like its nothing in our city but it definitely loves the highways. I drove my TL back from cali when I was stationed there. I think I filled up 6 or 7 times the whole way back? All fill-ups were about 13 - 14ish gallons.

oh and out of curiosity.. whats everyone's average MPG.. i just got the car about a month ago (06 NBP) and i travel about 40 highway miles, 3-4 times a week, plus i go to work (about 15 miles round trip city driving) 5 days a week, plus the random trips during the week.. getting about 17mpg every time i fill up and i wanted to see how it compares to everyone else

:arrrghhh:

If I had a gallon of gas for everytime this question has been asked, they'd call it Exxon/Bearcat instead of Exxon/Mobil.

I think the gauge reads low when it goes below ½ a tank so it makes you more inclined to get gas so you don't run out. My ex-Accord did that

I usually fill up when the needle goes below a ½ just in case. At that point, it typically takes about 8 gallons.
