2004 TL Different Cruise Control Problem
2004 TL Different Cruise Control Problem
Here's a different CC problem than I've seen in other posts:
The steering wheel button that turns on CC doesn't latch on.
If I hold it in, the CC light on the dash lights and cruise will work. But if I let go, cruise turns off.
Does anyone know if this is actually a mechanically latching switch or if the function is electronic? If mechanical, the switch needs replacement. If electronic, a controller problem?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

No problem, I leave it on as well and when I saw your post, I went to the garage to look at mine. I originally thought it was electrically latched, but then i thought that if it was an electrical latch then you would have to turn it back on everytime you start teh car (like my wifes Pacifica), but we dont have to do that. So i went and got a closer look and it was a real close look because the button doesnt come up too much when cruise control is off.
I had the same problem. The button is supposed to click and hold itself down for it to be on. If it springs back up then you need to replace the part. It was a bitch to find so I just took it apart and removed the spring. Now the cruise control stays on all the time...which is how i always had it, and you can go back to saving gas money. Its an easy DIY, you don't even have to disconnect the air back, just unbolt it and pull it out enough to squeeze the part through the steering wheel. It shouldn't take more than 90 min start to finish. You wont be able to toggle it off anymore, but I always had it on anyways and that green light never once bothered me. By the way, to answer your question, it's mechanical.
