1st to 2nd grind?

I just bought the TL last week. Love the car. But I would say about 75% of the time when going into second gear (with the clutch on the floor) the i get a hiccup going into 2nd. Its almost like the syncro is having trouble and its grinding a little. I noticed a lot of people have problems with 3rd but just wondering if anyone had the same problem I do in 2nd.

try putting in the new MTF

Is your car an ' 07 or an '06? If it is an '06, take it to the dealer and have them put in the new MTF that comes standard in the '07s.

I had a big problem with 3rd gear, and a some minor grinding going from 1st to 2nd--this is within the first 2k miles on my '06 TL. Both problems were fixed once I had the dealer put in the new MTF (see August service bulletin for details--P/N 08798-9031A Acura Precision Crafted MTF).

Actually I purchased a used 04. Although when the car warms up, it seems to get a lot better. I was leaning towards the transmission fluid as you suggested. I bought the car from an Audi dealership and was told to make an appointment with the local Acura dealership and they would of course cover the bill.

Do you know if there is a new ATF for automatics. I have a 06 and I too notice that it sorts of hiccups (doesn't grind though) when going to 2nd only (hard acceleration). Shifting to other gears seems fine. I have about 6K miles on it now.

I am having a problem when i hit the gas (redline, and VSA is off aswell) in 1st gear, push the clutch to the floor, and shift quick (racing quick) second gear grinds before engadging (the clutch is in the entire time) so it seems to me like the syncro is gone to me... first, anyone else had this problem? second is it something that the transmission of these cars arent meant to hold racing like conditions, third wil the dealer fix it under warrenty, and how do i explain it to them making it not seem like i was racing (i dono, will that maybe make them not want to fix it?)

the car has less than 40k mi and I am the second owner, so I dont know how it was treated previously

just tell them it started recently and snce you didn't geta check engine light, you didn't think it was a problem. just have em checkit when you go. Also it help if you have an older person come with you to back you up and have them present the problem

I get a little trouble with 2nd and 6th, too (mine is an 06).
I'm going to have the dealer put in the new Acura Fluid at the next oil change; it that doesn't fix it I'll put in the GM stuff myself.
I changed my style a little bit, too, which seems to help; I delay very slightly in neutral before going to the next gear.

Lots of options for which thread to choose to post my GMSMFM success story.

This thread is most appropriate as my issue has always been 1-2 gear engagement. And recently my 3rd gear has been getting "scratchy".

I've always been worried about warranty, but now I've been reading about guys going 50K miles or more, so I went for it, after 15K total miles.

My first engagement of 2nd gear put a huge smile on my face. It felt like I was driving somebody else's car.

I did it myself, as I had a just-right sloping driveway. Did my oil the same day (what a great way to spend an afternoon!) Hardest thing was getting the darn air cleaner moved out of the way to get the socket extension in perfectly perpendicular to the fill plug . I'm wondering if a universal joint at the plug end would totally eliminate the need to disconnect anything to get to the plug.
