You can buy the 105k kit from one of our vendors. You would also want to change out your spark plugs as well. Maybe some of the local guys can give you an idea of where to go to get it done cheaper. Change out your filters. When was the last time your tranny fluid was changed?

Give us a little bit about what maintenance has been done on the car to date so we can help.

Maybe take your car to Autozone and get the code read to see what is causing your CEL to come on. Post the code here or do a search on AZ for whatever code is given to you.

Welcome to the forums.

You can also buy a Gates timing belt kit from RockAuto.com for $160 and that includes...

- OEM timing belt
- OEM hydraulic tensioner
- OEM tensioner bearing
- OEM idler bearing
- Gates Water pump

These parts alone would cost at least $300 in Honda packaging.

- The Gates accessory belt is another $15

You can get the OEM spark plugs for $50 shipped from AdvancedAuto.com with $20 off coupon found on google.

Honda coolant should cost $30-40

Have someone install everything for a couple hundred. Shop around for labor costs at quality mechanics.

I called my dealer a while back and there are apparently 2 types of 105k services. The first one is everything to replace the timing belt/water pump etc. That one was around $900. The second one was the first one PLUS a bunch of other stuff, some of which may not be needed depending on what you do yourself (air filters etc) and was around $1400.

When I get mine done I am going to do just the timing belt/water pump one. I would call them back and ask if there are 2 separate ones.

Yes I think that's the right number. TCKWP Is definitely the right prefix though. I just installed one of these kits on my 04 Pilot. Whole timing belt change cost me $200 with coolant and two accessory belts.

BTW: You can always find 5% off coupons for RockAuto by searching google.

thanks for the tip on rockauto.com i had found the TB+WP package for 175 but this is obviously cheaper.

under belts, it lists this:

GATES Part # K060841 Micro-V AT Premium OE V-Ribbed Belt; K06 13/16" x 84 5/8"

is that the serpentine belt? and if so, will it fit my 04 6speed? im not sure what the AT denotes, but i assume there is no difference in belts between AT and MT TLs?

That should be the serpentine belt. There is only one other belt for the TL besides the timing belt. I don't know the part numbers though. There is no difference for AT or MT.

BTW: I just placed an order for 2 sets of OEM plugs (NGK Laser Iridium & NGK Laser Platinum) for our two Honda V6's on AdvanceAutoParts.com. My total came to $75 shipped with coupon "CCABIN". It's good for $40 off a $100+ order. Can't beat a 40% off coupon. Plus the TL plugs were already on sale for $1 off (~$9 each). TL Spark plug number is 6994.

All the Acura dealers in the DC/MD/VA area want about that much. Have you tried contacting Honda dealers? They gave me way lower quotes. I haven't gotten this done yet, but looked into prices just to be prepared. As others suggested also consider a local reputable mechanic.

I would read up on doing the job yourself. You could save a lot of money if you're comfortable with the procedure.

I recently reread Majofo's thread on doing this myself thinking that maybe I was just overwhelmed as a noob last time I looked it over...

NOPE, I'm going to pay someone to go ahead and do this. Maybe one of the acura techs can do it on the side if I go ahead and buy the parts ahead of time.

Dude thanks a lot! I used the 15% FERP coupon along with yours and got myself a replacement 6MT pass side axle and 6 plugs for 124 shipped!

sorry for the double post.

If you do make another DIY please be very detailed with the lining up of the cranks and pulleys with the block and don't abbreviate everything. Majofo had an EXCELLENT and well written write up but I think those are the 2 things that left me feeling like I'd be better off getting it done. The valve adjustment isn't touched on either so if you're doing that, please document that too.

Thank you!

Gwiz.....you have couple options:

1> buy all the parts and DIY...there is a DIY guide and if you are mechanically inclined you can save quite some cash....

2> buy all the parts and perform the simple stuff as DIY....spark plugs/cabin air filter/engine air filter and take the her in for the rest....

3> buy everything and take it in....

my dealership quoted me $1700-1800 something as well....i bought the Gates kit and 2 gallons of coolant ($300-$350 in parts)....took her in and the dealer charged me $500 for the labor....

Go to College Park Honda, I paid 699 for timing belt, water pump, drive belt installed. But they charged me another $120 ish and ripped me off for the tensioner. So bring your own tensioner.

^^^I have done all that already, cabin filter, plugs, tranny fluid change 3 times already, coolant change already. I've changed the accessory belt and the entire tensioner assembly for that belt (bearings shot) and rebuilt the seals on the ps pump.

ALL I need is the timing belt and water pump aspect and valve adjustment. That's it. I should be able to get it done pretty cheap, hopefully....I'm also 30K miles out.

Don't change your coolant ahead of time. $40 in fresh coolant will come spilling out when you pop off that water pump. Change the coolant when you do the TB & WP.

BTW: I'm pretty sure that's the regular price from RockAuto. They are easily the best price for the Gates kits. Shipping was pretty quick too.

Indepent shops like $650.

Gwiz,

If you're willing to take a 3½ hour drive, http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...mra=ls&ie=UTF8
you can get the job done at Hamilton Honda in NJ for UNDER $500 OUT THE DOOR including all OEM parts (water pump, both belts, hydraulic tensioner, new antifreeze), labor, and tax! TL owners come to them from all over the Northeast the job get it done.

Do a search on Hamilton Honda here in the Third Generation TL (2004-2008) section of ACURAZINE.

Damn that's cheap. I'm out by O'Hare in Chicago and the best I can find so for is $900 at an independent shop for everything.

Does anyone in Chicagoland have a quality shop to point me towards to get the 105k service done?

I spoke to the dealership in South Florida that I always goto and they gave me two options:
$599.95 for the timing belt and drive belt and $899.95 to add the water pump to the mix.

and the have a 15% off coupon for repairs over $250 or coming in on a saturday.

I am also having noise in the powersteering pump, which they rebuilt about 6 months ago and my Handsfree no longer detects any phones.

Did you even read this page???

The Gates kit is highly recommended. ALL the parts in the kit are the same as Honda except for the water pump. Rockauto.com has the best prices at ~$160. Check google for -5% coupons.

i looked it up n its a good deal... theres other kits that contain more than that like an extra belt, is that kit for 160 all it really needs or should i replace something else for the 105k service like spark plugs, or the basic tune-ups...

Yes there is also a single Drive belt. Replace that. Gates sells one on RockAuto as well. Other than that all you really need is 2 gallons of coolant. Get the blue stuff straight from Honda or Acura. Should cost $30-$40 total from the dealer. This is the best internet deal I've found: http://stores.ebay.com/Acura-Parts-S...sid=1013603415 They also have the best deal on most other Honda fluids, so check the rest of their store if you need something else.

Spark plugs you can get (OEM NGK Lazer Iridium) from AdvanceAuto.com. They are cheapest with coupon code CCABIN ($20 off $50 order or $40 off $100 order).

I just did my wife's timing belt on her 04 Pilot a month or two ago, and ordered plugs for all our cars. I'm 99% sure those are the best deals around.
