08 Type-s front brake pads are gone after only 17k miles...
Is this something expected? Dealer gives a $380 quote to get them replaced and says this is pretty normal for a type-s model..
The rear brake pads have more than 70% life left though. Can the brake pad wear be so uneven between the front and rear?
One thing I can think of is that my front wheels indeed collect brake dust much much faster than the rear wheels after every time I have done a car wash.
Anyone having the same experience?

EVERYTHING you've mentioned is common for your car all across the board. $380 for a front brake job is a good price coming from the stealership. All stealerships charge ~ $400 for it.
The reason 70% of your rear brake pads are left is because the TL Type-S has a brake bias of 70% front, and 30% rear, when engaged.
Even your brake dust issue is shared by every TL Type-S owner.
Hope this helps. Welcome to the forum, rb!

Don't assume the dealer is correct. They might have tried to "up-sell" the pad replacement.
I would take a tire off, and remove the pads to inspect the condition. Brembo calipers are very, very easy to work on. The pads are attached with pins, remove the pins and the retainer, pads come right out once you compress the piston a little.
Have someone who knows how to do brakes help you, if your not able. You might have another 5-15k of life left, who knows.

I have an 07 Type-S with 43k on it and have had roughly 6 rotor jobs done and the dealership paying for 3 of them. For some reason or another it seems like it is a lot more than just routine maintenance.

just took my "07 TL-S into dealer for a rattle from the front end. Front Brembos were totally gone at 67K miles (with little warning)! The dealer was equally surprised that I got such long life from them. They usually only last 30K according to them.
My '01 CL still had the original brakes at 160K.
I realize that most of my miles are freeway, but this kind of life was totally unexpected. I am planning a rotor/disc upgrade to aftermarket before needing brakes again.
