'08 TL gear box heating up!

Hey guys!

I think theres an issue with my gear box and wanted to see if anyone has experienced the same problem. When I turn the AC off, after a little I can feel the gear box heating up a lot. It gets to a point where I can feel the heat a lot when I touch it. The funny thing is after I turn the AC on it doesnt heat up anymore and feels normal. Any help would be appreciated! This is only my second post so please excuse me if I don't make sense!

Thanks

What could the AC system and the gear box (meaning tranny?) possibly have in common? Sorry but yeah, you're not making much sense at all here.

well maybe its a coincidence but it does heat up a lot and it happens sporadically. Could it be a wiring issue? Its a base model with no upgrades or anything.

Actually, OP make senses as to why the shifter area is cooling down when the A/C is on-- the A/C duct to the rear seats goes along the side of the the shifter and center console, so that area (with the cupholders) is cooled off by the A/C.

However, IDK the extent or cause of the heat at the shifter area on OP's car, as mine warms up a little, but is never hot to the touch.

the exhaust runs through that center tunnel and when the A/C is on it helps cool down the plastics and the stuff in that area when it travels through the console to the rear.
If it's really bothersome, take it to acura and have them check and see if the heat shields are bolted on properly.

Actually, If he meant the shifter area, he shoulda friggin said the shifter area as there's only a HUGE difference between that and the "gear box". Yes the duct runs on both sides of the shifter assembly and probably does vary in temp with the AC/Heater, but it's kinda worrying that the OP can't clearly tell us the difference between the two to explain his question.

That is true but boy that would be almost impossibly hot for the heat to travel all the way up to the top of the center console.

I have no heat shields and even with the stripped interior, it's just warm to the touch after a track session.

but who knows.....

Not everyone is well versed on exact car terminology, esp. if English is not their first language, so one sometimes has to look at the context in order to fill in the blanks.
Since OP could feel heat by touch while sitting in the driver's seat, I assumed he was referring to an interior area and not the transmission, torque converter, etc.

Dude you don't have to be a genius to figure out that I am talking about the interior of the car!

Midon,

Have an 08 with AT-5 and what you are describing is completely normal, it is the ducting for the Hvac causing the great difference in the temps. With my a/c on the center console is freezing to the touch and with the heat on it is very warm to the touch.

Shut off the A/c and it heats up quickly, nothing to worry about.

Does yours get warm to the point that you actually have to turn the ac back on? when I turn the AC off and crack my windows, it gets really warm and sometimes I feel the heat on my face.

Not even close w/ my TL.

I don't notice any heat at the shifter console area even touching it most of the time; the A/C is usually off while driving on the street.

If it isn't the heater that is on, you might check for missing insulation or blocked air flow-- missing/deformed panels-- under the car.

My 2007 TL has had the same problem sine I had the engine replaced after a huge puddle and I tangled... I lost, don't like to talk about it

Anyway - heat shield appears properly in place & secured... Where would I find a diagram to see if the dealership (who screwed up everything else - I even had to have the various wiring harnesses redone as the did not function as it did prior..these guys were bozos... Don't like to talk about it perhaps did not re-install some insulation (or whatever).

This is a huge problem... I live in the south....need to keep the heat out...without always needing the A/C on.

Any/all help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!
