'08 TL 6 spd MT lack of power in 2nd gear at low revs..Help

Hi Everyone,

I think I have a severe problem in my car and I'm really worried. I would call a local dealership or mechanic but everywhere is closed right now and I'd really like to get everyone's input on what is wrong with my car.

This is the second time that this has happened, (Last occurrence was pretty recent, 1-2 weeks ago) I'm in 2nd gear (6spd MT) and going 25-30mph. The road is open ahead of me and I decide to WOT for fun. Immediately I feel a lack of power at 3-4K RPM, almost as if the car was in 3rd instead of 2nd. I look at my dash confused, foot still remaining firmly on the gas pedal. RPM's are stable, no fluctuations to indicate transmission slip. Suddenly I get all my power, RPM's around 5K. At this point I shift into 6th and let my foot off the gas a bit. No CEL, no odd sounds or smells. I was really close to home and decided to call it a night. I will try to replicate the problem on my way to work tomorrow morning.

Does anyone have any insight on what might be wrong? Places to check for clues? Anything that will make it easier for me to explain the problem better to a technician?

Unfortunately not the first issue with this car....3rd Gear Syncro issues, buttons going out, timing belt TSB, door handle falling apart..

Sounds like traction control kicking in to me. Another item to look at is the throttle position sensor. ( APP sensor )

I know what traction control kicking in feels and sounds like. The Light wasn't flashing in the corner. This was a straight drivetrain not delivering power to the ground.

So I tried to replicate the problem several times this morning fairly successfully. The car jerks and gets a surge of power @ 5.5K RPM Vtec engagement. Before when Vtec engages it's very smooth and a bit subtle, now the car jerks almost as if I made a down-shift.

Spoke to the dealer today and the service writer told me it sounds like the car is trying to prevent itself from over-revving which doesn't make much sense to me. Only option is to go into the dealership and have a technician along while I replicate the problem.

Any inputs from anyone? Has anyone encountered a problem similar to this?
