'07 TL vibration issue

So ive recently bought a 2007 tl with 37,000 miles, it had tires with about 50% thread left and one bent rim, as i drive the car from 5mph-60mph its flawless but anywhere above it vibrated like crazy!! i thought it was the oem rims and tires so i replaced them with ssr type f's and some bridgestone potenza tires, also got an alignment and i was told each side was off a bit, but not tie rod or ball joint issues, can any one give me a clue to what this might be? a mount? or a bent control arm? my thought is a mount because when i floor the gas and it switches gear at 7,200 rpm it almost feels like i have a manual transmission when its actually a automatic

^^I agree. I had the same issue before when I would reach 70mph or faster. Make sure the wheels and tires are all balanced, and you may want to use some hub centric rings to ensure there is no vibration.

Sorry, don't mean to thread jack, but I am having the same issue. it vibrates while accelerating. But its starts around 40+ mph. I just got the tire balanced, rotated, alignment, and I even raised the car in the front about 1 inch. Even threw on the stock wheels, same ordeal. This junk is driving me crazy

Its the rotors, they are warped...the stock TL rotors are awful. I have an 06 and just replaced with Brembos and it drives like a champ now.

Definitely not any warped rotors that you would only feel while breaking, and also you can look at the rotors and tell, its either 5 options mounts, alingment, balance, titties on tires, or like the one guy suggested hub centric rings which i still havent bought lol

Also from what I hear bad cv joints, so axles or lower control arm mount. Some reported after replacing the axle things got better or after replacing the axle nut only.

I've replaced with new tires, two road force balances, all new motor and transmission mounts and just replaced both axles, alot of money later it still has a vibration around 60-80mph. What else could be the culprit? I'm starting to think the road force balancing machine might not be calibrated.

i changed the lower control arm due to the fact that it was bent, the passenger side was pushed back a few inches.. with the new lower control arm everything is squared off but, it still shakes. I just picked up a set of brembo so ill be using new rotors are obviously totally different set of spindles.. we shall see if it still shakes

See the rather extensive posts on lower control arm bushing failure. I suspect this is an element in these problems.

Well I don't think the bushings is the problem, I asked the knowledge tech about it and he said if it did go bad then it would be more of a clunk? Mine are in decent shape. I suspect he may have bent rims like I do. They look perfect but if you jack up your car and spin them fast like the rear, look for he wheel spinning lumpy.

When I got the tires balanced, i told the guy to look to see if any of the rims where bent and he said that they were not. I think I'm just going to replace all the bushings and engine mounts and the axles, and call it a day.. F It!!

Don't believe the guy, check it yourself. I was told by the shop that the road force balance didn't detect anything and I was good to go, that's until I brought it to a well educated shop that showed me it was bent and saw the disformation when spinning, jack up your car, for the rear just spin the tire fast and see if it spins in a circle rather than a clumpy circle. For the front, jack it up and have someone put it in drive and give it slight throttle.

^^ Bushings (LCA) could certainly be a problem, and many do not report a "clunk" even though their bushings were torn. Read the thread.

Same issue here and will have the bushings replaced in a few weeks, otherwise I will move to CV joints.

^^ cv joints replaced, problem still persisted, replaced two bent rims and much smoother, problem still there, slightly tho. Do your bushings then repost, mine are fine.

I had this problem, but my rim was bent and I needed new tires.
Make sure your speed rating is 168+ if it isn't already.

^^ lol what? speed rating means nothing. As long as its rated above 155....considering we are limited electronically to that. Personally I do not plan on ever going over 130....

Maybe I'm more sensitive to my car's vibrations because I definitely felt a difference in the vibration in my steering wheel.

You don't have to agree for him to take the advice.

I don't know if this can be true but for me it is, if I got new tires I can feel a vibration until the tires break in, or if they are worn for awhile and you do a tire rotation you can feel it too until it's worn in.

^^ I agree with that, that was the main cause of my vibrations in the past was from one tire needing to be replaced and having a little more tread on it than the others...once I moved it to the back and kept the two similarly worn tires in the front the vibrations went away a little bit. Once I get these bushings put in in 2 weeks and it doesnt fix the slight vibrations I am giving up.

So today I found that the upper tranny mount was completely broken.. The center piece was able to get pulled up while the mount was still bolted to the chassis.. Might be the cause of my vibration.. we shall see 2mor.. Trail and error sucks

Yeah it does, but I don't see how that would cause a vibration or even break, I replaced mine and my old one was perfect. Hope it works out. One thing that also matters is the torque of your lugs, make sure their all torqued. If one is put on more than the other, this can cause warping of the rotors then it will vibrate. Also make sure you tighten them while the wheel is off the ground so it's not resting against the nuts as you tighten. Just noticed my 80mph vibration is still there. Then again balancing machines don't go up past the speed limit.

Sorry for taking so long on update, i got the rims road forced balanced by a hunter 9700 and got hub centric rings. Now my car doesnt shake at all, and i also purchased some innovative 75a black mounts, big difference cant even tell my car is switching gears

Did you DIY the new mounts? Did you replace all three engine mounts?

Did you use an OEM replacement lower tranny mount? What condition was the upper tranny mount in?

Are the hubcentric rings metal or plastic?

Did you do these at separate times (and know whether the hubcentric rings or the motor mounts fixed the issue)? I'm having the same problem (vibrations at 60mph) and don't know what to do. I want to find out the probable cause before I swap out my tires. The '05 TL I just bought has some bizarre wear patterns -- bald on the inside lip on the driver's side, new tires on the passenger's side -- and I don't want to spring on a set of 4 new / better tires if that's not the problem. Looks like the wheels are "balanced," to boot.

Yes i replaced all 3 by myself, took me about 2-3 hours, i added hubcentric rings first, and it removed all my vibration while driving, But i had clunks and jerks so i had to replace my mounts i also switched the transmission mounts with oem ones. YOU DO NOT EVER NEED HUB CENTRIC RINGS FOR OEM RIMS,ONLY SOME RIMS REQUIRE CHECK WITH RIM MANUAFACTURER, NOR DO YOU NEED A ROAD FORCE BALANCE, If you have no clue why your cars vibrating, check in this order, Bent rim, Tittie on tires, wheel balance, mounts and then axles

Also having bizzare wear patterns on tires does cause lots of vibration especially when its camber wear and the tire isnt sitting in its normal wear out form, get new tires and after theyre installed go straight to an alignment shop, And whoever installs your tires should mount and blance them.
