07 TL Type S clutch slip
07 TL Type S clutch slip
I got 07 TL Type S manual with 19k miles, I bought it with 15k. looks like my clutch is sliping. That happens only when I'm trying to "race"... 1st gear - burnout, and when I shift 2nd, 3rd my RPM's going up, and thats it. Then clutch starts to burn, I meen looks like it, because I can smell it... And I don't know if it's clutch, because its hard to beleive that someone can burn clutch in 15k... anyone had same problem???
Search on clutch.
Some folks have had them fail prematurely legitimately. Others, and without more info it sounds like you fit in this category, have abused them into failure.
If you're flooring it before the clutch is completely grabbed, then it will most likely slip in anything other than 1st. That will wear the crap out of the clutch, and overheat it like you have been smelling; this is abuse.
If the clutch is out, and the rpms are too high for the gear you are in, then let off the gas immediately, you are just eating clutch.
They can tell if it's been overheated (if you've smelled it, it has) and they'll call it abuse. It's about $3500 to get a new clutch at the dealer.

turn off the vsa. i tried to do a burnout once with my 05 m/t i forgot to turn off the vsa, and wasted about a year off my clutch. it smelled for days. looking forward to the clutchmasters stage 2 setup.
Remember, Those Formula cars and NASCAR stock cars and Drag racers get torn down and re-built after every race.
If you treat your TL like a race car assume you will have to follow their maintenance schedule, not Acura's

First of all TL can't go 350MPH like nascar, and even If I am starting normaly and floor it to red line, just before red line I shift 2nd and it's the same thing
Others have had legitimate problems like you describe. It might be difficult, though, to get it warrantied (or sympathy here) if you start out with "It slips when I'm racing it". Especially since you are 19. Is it your car or your dad's/mom's? I recommend they take it to the dealer and complain about the clutch slipping.
A test: In 4/5/6 gear, if you push in the clutch, rev it to ~1000 rpm past where it should be, and then quickly let the clutch out, it should immediately drop to the right rpm. If not, it's slipping too much.
...Trying to give you the benefit of the doubt. I hope you deserve it.
Good Luck.

My first car was a 90 civic 5 speed. I learned to drive on it. 5 months after I bought it with 48 thousand miles I had to replace the clutch (at about 55 thousand miles). I then drove on that same replaced clutch until 240 thousand miles 9 years later. Why did the clutch go bad so early on it? Because some 16 year old kid cut his teeth on it, thats why.
You can rag it out all you want, just understand that all the moving parts will wear out and break down a whole lot faster. Depending on how rough you are on it (and from the tone of your post it sounds like this may be how you treat the car every day) you can expect to know all the techs at the local dealership by their first names.
'Ok Guy's I'll make video how it look's like, because I can see that you don't understand... The car I had before was 2003 Saab 93 Aero and did not had that issue. That was 6 speed manual too, so trust me I know how to drive manual. I'm not saying that I'm beating S---t out of that car everytime I start it.. Sometimes there is some jackass with mustangs on the streets and I'm grad to smoke then.
dude ur going from a saab 93...made to be beaten....to a luxury sports car thats not supposed to be until u understand the way it works and even then ur not supposed to beat on it.....learn ur lesson now and leave the stangs alone most likely they wanna see u break ur car or hear it scratch when u shift.
and on another note.....this car is like the finest piece of pussy you'll ever come across......pet it nicely and it'll love u..... beat it and it'll shit in ur pocket.

True, this car was built to be a bit more civilized and less "speed racer". I think the car for showing up mustangs is a Camaro, or a WRX, or an S-2000. Something made with that kind of thing in mind. The TL had to appeal to older folks who want to be able to go, but not to beat mustangs light to light.
Odd though it seems that 80% of TL owners on here are 25 or less!! Many have ages that end in "teen". I had to wait til I was 30 to get one of these. How does every one afford these?

If your clutch is really slipping do this test at highway speeds 55-65mph. Then in the top gear while cruising at said highway speed mash the gas. If your rpm's jump up and your car does not accelerate its your clutch and its probably fried.

I have a '07 TL Type S, MT -- shifting from 1st to 2nd is not smooth (last car was an '04 350 Z MT). The bigger issue, however, is the clutch not engaging correctly (i.e., late action with clutch burning smell) when accelerating on a hill -- normal speeds. I have driven MT for over 30 years so I know how to shift. The dealer said that they replaced the clutch assembly but I still have the same problem.
