'07 TL-S MT Problems
Have a 2007 TL-typeS with a 6 speed MT, and approximately 37k miles.
Have had problems since new with it slipping or popping out of 3rd and sometimes 4th gear. It has been to the dealership multiple times. GM syncromesh fluid was used twice, and the problem returned last winter. (NOTE- Seems to only occur in when the weather gets colder.)
This problem aside I love the car and plan on keeping it for a while.
Anyway last February, they pulled the transmission and repleaced the 3rd gear "gear-set". It seemed to be working fine until the last couple weeks now that the temperture is dropping, and it has started slipping out of 3rd and 4th again.
Has anyone else experienced this after the gear replacement? SHould I just suck it up and live with it, or is it the precursor to a bigger transmission problem coming? Would like to get this resolved while the car is still on warranty.
Thanks

There are a lot of posts about this very issue and it covers multiple years. There is a TSB out on this so you might want to look that up.
For what it's worth, I am the original owner of a late build 2004 manual TL and have never had any sort of problems whatsoever with my transmission. So not all TL's have been experiencing this but enough have to warrant the TSB.
As for the GM fluid you used, it was not the correct one. You need GM Synchromesh Friction Modified, part #12377916.

Thats weird how it still happens after they replaced the third gear set. If that occurs still, there is definely something wrong there and is not the sychros.
Ask the dealer to replace the whole tranny if possible. Good luck!

The TSB has been out now for a little while so you would think they've seen a few TL's come through their shop with the problem.
My 3rd gear TSB service is still going strong since May (I think).
Unfortunately your probably gonna have to keep going back to the dealer until they replace the tranny or get whatever the problem is worked out. Just keep asking for loaner cars, and they'll keep giving them to you.

I had my 3rd gear set replaced about a year ago and everything works fine now. Seems like the dealership messed something up...I know it's a pain in the ass but just keep going back until it gets fixed. Your under warranty thankfully.
