07 TL-S - 0% front brakes at 13,700
So I head in today for A1 service and asked them to check the breaks -- I've heard them squeaking at low speeds for the last few weeks. So to my surprise, they tell me the front Brembos are at zero percent.
I had my B1 in November and the multi-point inspection listed my fronts at 90%. It's simply impossible that I tore through 90% in 3 thousand miles, so it seems likely that they didn't event inspect the breaks back in November and simply jotted down 90%. I expressed my frustration with the situation and the service rep gave me a loaner TSX and said he'll run it by his service manager on Monday.
I have the full extended warranty, not that it'll help with brakes, but do you guys think I have any leverage in asking for a deal of any kind? Seems kinda lame that I pay for a multi-point inspection and they don't even properly inspect my brakes. Plus, my family has bought two TLs from this dealer over the last three years -- does that give me any ammo?
What's realistic, they cover the pads, resurface the rotors? They just make me pay for parts and nix labor? Whatcha all think I should demand when he reaches out on Monday?
Best,
Kyle

yah you could use that as some leverage. just say that you are disappointed because you bought 3 cars from them and you recommend them to everyone, and then they allow this to happen. maybe that will get you something.

Look at the receipt for the multi point inspection- that you PAID for
While it is possible to sneak a peek at the inner wear bar-, the center channel cut into the pads--- its not reliable,
and only physical removal of the pads to inspect wear is the PROPER way to check brakes
That noise the last few weeks was the squeeler tab hitting the rotors every time you push the brakes on- its there to make to aware of a need to visit the shop right away!!!
While there may be a small amount of pad left- its 0% once it hits 3mm pad material thickness remaining
Pads dont work as well once they get lower
NOTE Bypass the Service Writer/Advisor who is a commissioned salesperson
Speak in person and DIRECT with the Service Manager
Your loyalty is not the issue here- you are not asking for a free transmission
You had the car in their shop for an inspection and they said all is well.
Now there is a MAJOR brake issue -- how many miles did you put on in the few months?
Some would call the results of the first PAID inspection..... FRAUD!!!

actually brembos are warranted to 25k miles so u have nothing to worry about usually they are a wear n tear item that u have to pay for but if acura installs them and documents ur milage at the time of install then u have brembos 25k mileage warranty on it. OBVIOUSLY 13700 should be covered......ive seen it and i would bitch and even get a lawyer involved if they give u a hard time about it....because pads n rotors are expensive for our brembo setups. im sure once u say lawyer they'll break and give it to u without problems. my last set of brembos lasted me 55k with no cuts on the rotors and no replacing pads just a straight 55k and right in the garbage afterwards.....i hope this new set last me as long.
good luck otherwise.

In December with 10K, April with 13,700. I'm gonna look through my extended warranty, I don't remember hearing anything about the 25K number and Brembos. And yes, I'm gonna claim fraud. I mean what if my brakes went out and I was injured? I have documentation that the dealer gave me a 90% inspection on my brakes and I'm driving around with zero!

I called to find out why brake life was not noted on the invoice, and the service guy then realized that they forgot to look at my brakes, which just started making noise at the time. I needed front brakes and was given a discount, but lost confidence in the Keyes service dept and found a nice independent Honda/Acura shop thereafter.

Same situation here. Under 12k, brakes were shot. Got a whole new set-up, no questions asked. They just said, here are some new brakes, the old ones are bad (shown to me) so we replaced them under warranty. No bitching from me, not a complaint. Metro Acura in Montclair is the best. Just STAY away from Thomas in Covina.

Hope this works for me. I just posted in similar thread that my OE Brembo Front Pads are toast at ~14,500.

I went in for an oil change at keyes acura this past Saturday and they did their inspection on my 07 TLS with 11,500 miles on it and it still has 70% left on the front brakes and 80% on the rear brakes...so I was pretty happy about that...I asked about the squeaking and they told me that brembos accumulate a lot of brake dust

My 07 TL-S front brembos squeak like no other. Its so loud its embarrassing pulling up to another car...Taking it to dealer on Monday to get it fixed. I'll post my details on later. I just passed 12,000 miles which voids their wear/tear warranty. We'll see....

no it doesnt the brembos are warrantied to 25k..... so if the dealer tries to pull funny shit....wear n tear my ass.....brembos last a minimum of 50k miles. they have the warranty info on brembos website or the package that comes with the brembo pads.

my dealer said 25k is standard brembo warranty. I looked i didnt see anything on the brembo site about it... but the dealer did tell me its up to 25k. if they install them and ur under 25k on those pads or rotors they gotta replace them but if they didnt do the work to begin with then they dont have to do it.

yea....i feel that if ur replacing pads, stick to the brembo the stopping is better and squeals next to nothing unless ur backing up. Ive tried a few brands and none stop as well....less dust doesnt mean shit to me if its not stopping.

There is no warranty for the Brembro brakes per Brembo Customer service and American Honda Corporate office. It is up to the dealer to swap them out for free. I got a discounted rate, pay for the cost of the pads, for my issue.

I ran out around 13k, replaced them out of my own pocket (around 250 for brembo pads). Now I have about 16k and it's already at 50% (dealer quoted).. these breaks are ridiculous, most of my driving is also on HIGHWAY.

These brakes suck.
They provide only mediocre stopping power at real speeds, the rotors are too small when compared to virtually any other "performance sedan" of similar weight, they squeak, they make a lot of dust and the pad life is a joke.
But hey, the calipers say "BREMBO" on them and I guess that's all most people need.

the brakes suck???? dude u smokin dust??? lets call lambo and ferrari and bentley and rolls and benz and tell them brembos suck and they shouldnt install them on any of their cars.....oh wait and porsche and all the F1 car builders. it kinda says something about the product if those car companies and f1 race cars use them.

If your Hawk pads make noise- did you clean the rotors before install?
If not resurfacing the rotors- you are supposed to clean them with 120 grit sandpaper
to remove all old pad materials built up on the rotors- its there- believe me!
Failure to do so results in noise and weak braking
Also hawk pads need to be properly bedded- the directions on the box are limited by space.
Here is a good method- not the only method, just one I like-- because I helped write and test it on my TL

Rotora also makes pads for brembo cars- and a matching set of slotted rotors
The cross cut holes eat pads faster than flat rotors- basic science and physics at work
Never believe a percentage of brake life remaining- ONLY actual measurement of pad depth is how you know for sure
You guys in traffic are hard on brakes- look how much they get used and not cooled off

My $21K 1998 Camaro's brakes were MUCH more effective than these brakes when stopping from real speed.
The TL-S rotors (12.2" F/11.1" R) are simply too small for a modern "performance sedan" that weighs almost 3,700 pounds.
Check the size of the rotors on the other cars you mention and you'll see they provide vastly superior swept area/ton figures.
Larger rotors provide a longer brake moment arm, which literally translates to proportionally greater stopping power at any given wheel speed. Larger rotors are also heavier and therefore better able to absorb and dissipate heat.
The Brembos on this car are mostly a marketing gimmick. RL size rotors with RL calipers (less expensive sliding calipers) would have been much better for the TL-S and it wouldn't have cost a dime more.
Acura probably realizes that most TL-S buyers don't understand the physics of braking, but associate the Brembe name with high performance vehicles. Hence, they pay more than what's required for those fancy front calipers and skimp on the rest of the brake system (e.g. rotor size and those LAUGHABLY small rear calipers.

Of course the dealership "never heard anyone else complain about" it, but did verify the problem.
The resurfaces the rotors and installed new pads under warranty. (The car had about 3K miles on it then.) At first there seemed to be no improvement, although the brakes did quiet down a lot once they were worn in (200 or so miles on them.) They are still the noisiest brakes I have EVER had in a new car. (I've owned maybe 20 new cars in my life, all of which were a lot less expensive than this one.) But they're much quieter than they were, so I suggest you look into doing the same thing.
