I noticed the other day that the engine had some unhealthy starts that didn't sound quite right. Then I went to start it a few hours later and had no luck. The starter cranks fine and then the engine starts and it gets a few pumps out, the ones that vibrate the whole car, but then it fails to make it to idle, then nothing.

After about ten minutes and probably 30 attempted starts, I was finally able to get a really unhealthy sounding start. Once it was on it was fine. Since then I have been having really weak starts and I'm sure its going to fail me soon again.

Any idea what it is?

Ok I brought it to the dealership. They said they tested the battery and it failed so they replaced it and it worked and they called it a day.

Now its beginning not to start again (about 24 hours after I got it back with a new battery)

Any ideas? Alternator? Something draining the battery?

 

Probably shitty battery again. This is a common problem with Acura batteries. I'm going through it myself right now. There was another member on the boards that after the second battery failed, Acura wrote him a check for the price of the battery. I think he ended up going with something better like a braile or optima.

 

Just tried to jump it... Still won't start.

I got it to start once this morning and the rpm's oscillated around idle then dropped out and the engine shut off.

time to call the stealership that did the battery and have them pay for the tow to the dealer. if they did an AVR, then they should have checked the starting,charging system. and of course the battery.do you have any aftermarket electrical items on your car??? i.e subs,alarm system etc.

 

I have the wiring ran to hook up my amps but I didn't have them hooked up while this problem started.

The car is under warranty so they just towed it to the dealership. Miraculously now when I was hoping it didnt start so they could hear the problem.. it did.

 

dealer said they couldn't replicate the problem and took a stab in the dark and replaced the fuel relay.

problem is still occurring...

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

another symptom is sometimes it barely is able to start.. the rpms go up like normal start... then when it goes to fall back to idle it falls below idle and the engine just stops working.

 

Oil light and battery light are turning on after failed starts or when the engine stops
