'07 TL auto with a downshift issue

Hi Guys, Im a newb and this is my first Acura. I have a 07 TL Type S. I just bought the car from a dealer, Certified, so I have warranty. 25K on the odometer. I didnt notice this when I was test driving the car because I was overwhelmed by the awsomness of the vehicle. when I got home and drove the car for a few days I started to notice that it seems to downshift noticably at around 40 mph and again around 10-15mph on flat roads. This is wierd and some post say that this is normal because of the "sporty feel of the car", this seems wierd to me. I had a 2k3 maxima and never noticed/felt it downshift ever. Is this normal or do I need to go in for service and hopefully not get a new trans. Thoughts? I sooooo want to like this car but Im nervouse about it now reading all this tranny BS on this thread. 125K on my maxima and no problems, a month with the TLS and I have nervous thoughts. IS this normal? HELP!!

The transmission on the TL-S does shift in a slightly more pronouced manner than other cars, esp when you are slowing down quickly and even more so when you are on an incline going down.

If you feel it is excessive, I suggest you take it to the dealer and have them check the fluid condition, fluid levels and as well the car itself.

it still feels as if the shifts are very sudden especially when slowing, it also feels like it is in the wrong gear sometimes when accelerating from a slower speed, like it jumps into a lower gear. not really a slip but sort of, IDK

try resetting the transmission with the "gas pedal trick" and see if it helps!

Tell me more about this "gas pedal trick". How do you do it and what does it do?

I noticed when I had my 08 TL-S there was a pronounced downshift when slowing down. This is a normal downshift. You can feel it but it shouldn't jerk you around.

I did the gas pedal trick and it seems that it IS shifting smoother and it doesn't get the harsh downshift at 40 mph anymore. O only drove home about 12 miles bit it seems a bit better. Thanks for the tip. Is there any way to tell that it worked when I did the trick and what does it do? Should you do this regularly? Any reason not to do it? Thanks again for the tip

My TL does the same thing when slowing down rapidly. If I'm going about 40 or 50 and get on the brakes, the car will drop into second gear.

By the "gas pedal trick" you are resetting the car's ECU. After you do that, the car reprograms itself to your driving characteristics. So if you drive like a bat out of hell after the reset, the car will accommodate to your needs from then on out. It's constantly learning how you drive so the car will respond appropriately.
