06 TL Transmission Leak Rqrs Total Replacement !

So with 60k (easy) miles, I developed a transmission fluid leak.. got to be pretty bad. Took it to the dealer and they said it was a return line that was loose, all is good. Take the car home and it's still leaking, now it's bad. Go back to the dealer and after 5 days they just called to tell me the whole transmission has to be replaced. They said it's an internal seal in the middle of the transmission and non serviceable. I think I'm still in warranty but what the heck is going on with a tranny at this early age needing a total replacement ?

Ok, so they replaced the entire transmission under warranty due to an unserviceable leak. I've got mixed emotions about that. Like is it going to do the same thing later when the warranty is over ?

Seems like a first here. But with a rebuilt transmission you should have been given an extended warranty on the transmission that will last longer than your existing warranty.

This sounds exaclty what i'm going through right now. The seal between the transmission housing and the torque converter housing is leaking. My dealer ship today told me that it's minimum 10hr labour to get the transmission out and back in. that' doesn't count any troubleshooting time or repair.

i'm only leaving little spots in the driveway but apparently when the car is moving the leaking is worse. they said they had the scope on it on the hoist and was bringing the car up to 40mph.

basically to fix this little leak - 15-25 hrs labour @ $100/hr = Fuk me

Right now I'm contemplating three things.. see if ultra grey will seal it, trade the car in and fail to mention it, or make it dissapear...

Oh i have an 04 AT NAVI with 184000kms on it.

I, too, have noticed black stains in my garage from the TL. I just thought it was normal...

Would it be ok if an indy shop took a look at it or is the dealership the best option? I have one of the worst talked about service centers (West Chester Acura) nearby so I'm weary of that place.

Thanks

Edit: I only have about 76k miles on a 06 TL.

184000km = 114,000 miles
You're upset that your car blew a seal after that many miles? Thats some seriously high expectations, IMO.

Really? Honda has earned a reputation for building cars that are at most middle-aged at 100k. That seems VERY early for major transmission issues to me. But admittedly I don't think Honda is quite at the quality level they were putting out in the late 80's/early 90's.

My acura dealer lead technician admitted that he would likely not open up the transmission as he hasn't done it before. He said he would send it out to the transmission specialists.

I have owned honda's since I started driving 19 years ago. albeit they were all manual transmissions and this is my first automatic, there was never a transmission problem and one of those cars was a USDM 92 integra gsr with 298,000 miles (not kms). Yes I have high expectations.

i'm going to try the sealant fix today and see where that gets me.

Unfortunately, honda NEVER made a good automatic transmission. but this isn't even transmission failure, it's a stupid leak that will cost me $2000+ to fix.

NAPA - "Right Stuff" Gasket Maker and sealant - resists Oil, ATF and coolant. Expensive but it worked.

I thoroughly cleaned the surface with a rag, then sanded it down with 200 grit, then brake cleaned the shit out of it. applied the "Right Stuff" and had the car out within 2hrs for a good drive, looked at the area that i cleaned and it was perfectly dry.

I am confused, did you just layer this stuff on the bottom of your trans and where it bolts to the engine? So all that atf that is leaking out of the trans is now pooling up in this area?
