Completely normal. Do a search, many threads on this. MPG directly follows average MPH. Average MPH has a much larger effect than any other factor.

I average 14-15 around town, but I'll admit I have a lead foot. On the highway, though, with the cruise set at 70-75, 28-29 is usually my average.

A better indicator is posting your average MPH. There's a huge variance in different "city" driving.

There's an older thread where everyone posted their average MPH and MPG and for a given MPH, everyone's MPG was amazingly close to one another.

Coming from a v6 full sized truck, the TL sips gas.

I'm happy with 19mpg around town.

I just went and looked out of boredom - all city driving this tank - 22 mph average! 15 mpg - 144 miles so far.

Thanks. I'm going to dig up that old thread and see how it compares.

Thanks everybody! I had a feeling that it was not abnormal to get bad mpg around town.
I do also have a problem with pinging from my engine. I always use premium gas. Is there anything else I can do? I have tried gas at several different stations with the same affect!

I'm leaving for work so I don't have time to look it up but there's a huge thread called "valve chatter". I've got the pinging too and many, many TL-S owners have it. The only solution so far is to run high octane fuel.

In which city or town do you live? And when you report your MPG, is all of your driving within that city/town? I live in a more "rural" suburban area about six miles from a city. My area has the proverbial "more newly discovered growth" so there is a fair amount of traffic. When I was working, I averaged around 25 MPG going back and forth to work and I would come and go to work through the city. Best ever was 27.98 one summer week of this.

If you are in a heavily congested area with a high density of traffic, stop signs, and lights, you can expect your mileage to drop into the teens.

As for your engine pinging, you say you're using premium fuel which is what our engines require. Make sure the fuel is a quality brand, preferably from a station which is newer and does a lot of business (this increases the possibility of always getting fresh gas and a minimum of water in the fuel). Next, try running a can of Sea Foam Motor Treatment through your gas tank. This will help clean out your fuel system and hopefully stop the pinging.

Agreed. Its bad that the TL gets as bad or worse mileage than my GN in the city. I've seen as low as 12-13mpg with pure stop and go.

I get a solid 30-31mpg on the freeway. I've averaged 36mpg going 55 for 4 hours. One of the most impressive was with an average speed of 101mph or so for 3 hours I managed 26-27mpg.

It's just the redlights are timed so aweful here you spend the majority of your commute stopped. My 2 mile drive can take 4 minutes in the morning or 15 minutes in the afternoon. Once I went back to a 2,800 stall convertor from a 3,600 stall the GN surpassed the TL in mpg.

Now that's low mileage. The lowest I have ever recorded with my '04 manual TL was 22 MPG. The highest was 33.94 and that was using the A/C the entire trip.

I live about 5 miles from work and most of it is interstate. Takes me about 10-15min. I get my gas from a brand new station that does a lot of buisness. I will try the seafoam and see if that helps.

I am suprised by some of your numbers. With my 03 Accord coupe auto V6 I get 24-25MPG all city driving. My last trip from tucson to huntington beach cali I got 31.12MPG average MPH was about 75MPH with A/C all the way until I hit a beautiful 68 degrees at the beach ha!

Tried it. If the average mph is low, the mpg is going to be low no matter how you drive it.
