'06 TL brakes are squeaking/squealing need advice!

Alright so i have an 06 TL 6 speed. I recently purchased the car and the previous owner informed me he had just gotten the front brakes replaced. I have the reciept showing the shop replaced the rotors and pads. The pads used are not OEM.

It only squeals when u apply the brake softly once you push on it harder it goes away. Yes i searched the forum already but didnt really come up on a conclusion on how to fix thks issue.

Hoping to see what you guys think i should do.

P.s also mods if this is in the wrong section im apoligize just wasnt sure where to put it. Thanks.

They probably weren't bedded in properly. look up break bedding procedures.

Under light brake application, the pads will actually move back and forth inside the caliper and the pad backing will scrape on the metal piston/caliper. When heavy presssure is applied the pads are clamped tightly against the rotor and won't be able to move, so no noise. When you look at the back of the pads, you'll see where the wear is indicated so apply the solution in that area, but read the directions as to the setup time required before installation.

New pads, new rotors, that shouldn't be the problem.

Take the pads out, regrease them properly. Then rebed them properly. I'm sure you will be fine after that.

And a LOT of brake setups will squeal a bit under light load.

I understand some brake setups sqeal, but this is at the point where its emberrasing.

I just want to see what options i have to get rid of the squeal.

Was thinking on switching the pads to duralast cmax pads since i seen alot of members on here vouching for them..

Lifetime warranty...little to no dusting...great price.

However the bite isn't that great. If you don't do any spirited driving then the golds would work just fine.

You need to take the braked apart and grease everything real nice. Be sure to get the back and sides of the pads, and the pins. Before greasing tho, use about a can of brake cleaner on each side to get all the dust and gunk out. I dont worry about bedding brake in unless its a performance application and Ive never had any problems. If that doesnt help, do it all over again except this time turn the rotors and buy better pads.

Regrease the pad backing like others have stated. If you still have noise, then I'd try to bed the pad. 90% of the better pads on the market will do away with most, if not just about all common noise issues from doing this alone. If it's still making noise, it's some uber cheap-o pad compound and you might as well just change it out.

Does your car have the stock rotors or do you have slotted or holed rotors?

Reason I ask is I put some slotted rotors on my Wife's Pilot with some Hawk pads and the Pilot had a high pitch noise as described by OP. We switched to OEM pads and the problem went away. I tried the other advice on this thread and nothing worked.

That is more-so due to the pad. Hawk has never really been good about being a quiet pad. I used to sell their stuff, but now I tend to turn my customers away from Hawk as the quality of their product seems to have been going downhill for some time now. The only pads that I really use from them anymore are their motorsports lineup, but even then, there are other pads on the market that I think do an equivalent job at doing so.

I use Mobil 1 grease on the back of my pads, but if you goto any auto parts store, they'll have grease for brake jobs. Also a nice heavy grease that one would use for wheel bearings (if anybody here even knows or remembers the days when you have to service and repack wheel bearings with grease at each brake service) work nicely too, and seems to be a little cheaper at times too.

The anti-squeal stuff they sell at the store is actually a rubber glue that dries. I would not use it as it's a pain to get off later on. The OEM pad set now include a special brembo copper anti-seize paste. To me this says, use a little anti-seize on the backs of the pads and your good. Instead of getting the brembo grease for $40, buy a small $1 packet of silver anti-seize from the parts store, or a whole tube of the copper stuff. Keep in mind the original instructions said to only use Molykote M77 paste, but they switched to the copper Brembo grease after the noise TSB.

BTW: It's only SUPPOSED to go where the pads touch the shims, and where the shims touch the pistons. Not on the pins or the pad spring or the caliper itself.

The bronze stuff works too, but washes away too easily.

Or you can change the new spacer and spring part.

So we regreased the back of the pins and pad already had plenty of grease. Went to bed them in and they stop sqealing for a while, but now its back again. Dont know what it could be..

Thinking about just throwing some better pads in there.

Sorry about not ever coming back to this thread.

I did get the problem resolved. Ended up changing pads to Duramax Golds with lifetime warranty. Greased them up real good and bed them in. Havent had the problem since. Some minor squeaking when the pads are cold but nothing serious.
