06 Power steering woes

My girl's 06 tl went into the dealer last week for a grinding/humming noise upon cold startup as her car is under extended warranty. I am aware of the recall for the hose kit that causes a problem similar to the one I'm describing. Anyway, she ended up getting charged $120 for a "DIFFERENT" hose which is the suction hose. I checked the pn's on the receipt and then both checked out to be said part (and clamps). Anyone else ever have or heard of this problem with the suction hose failing? I just wanna make sure it's legit and the dealer isn't trying to charge for what should have been recall work. Thanks

It must have been the cause of the problem as I assume it's now fixed, but if she has an extended warranty why would the repair not be covered, check the policy closely. If it's a Acura Car Care warranty it should be covered.

Yes, I saw that after the car was dropped off. However, I was more referring to the original question. Anyone ever heard of a suction tube failing or am I being taken for a fool here?

So they replaced your perfectly good inlet tube and the o-ring which was the real culprit and charged you $120 for a $0.50 o-ring. Yep you got hosed..

The inlet tube / suction tube as it's called is not the replaced hose in the recall but it is removed to replace the o-ring which should have been part of the recall. There could be a minor possibility that the hose did fail but you should always ask to see said failed component before any work is done. If the hose did in fact fail, I'm sure there would obviously be evidence of a cracked hose.

You learned a lesson OP.. it was minor in price and at least it's fixed but keep it in mind next time you take it in for service.

It's not clear in your original post but it sounds like you took the car in for the recall at the same time? If so, you shouldn't be paying a dime in labor since the labor involved in the recall is the same in removing that hose..
