'06 power steering pump o-ring

Well I have an 06 with 68k on it. The power steering hose recall was done a couple years ago. Recently the infamous whine on cold start became apparent and from our awesome Azine site I knew in a minute that the o-ring was the issue. Had an excellent experience with Kearny Mesa Acura, in and out with an 2010 TSX loaner in 15 minutes. car was ready the next morning and remedy was indeed the o-ring and a bleed of the system. Was back in and out in less than 15 minutes and I have my baby back confirmed fixed upon cold start up this morning. Only go to the dealer for waranty work and they have been great every time........well the 3 times I have had to go in the 4 years anyway.

I had the same problem with the whine, put a new O-ring in and it still whines in the morning. Do I need to change the fluid out?? Another oring?? Goes away when it warms up. But when I checked the fluid directly have starting, foam red fluid would come out. What should I do??

Well maybe its possible that you replaced the o-ring with the old style ring, not the new improved version? The fluid is foamy because its sucking air into the pump past the o-ring. You will need to bleed the fluid. If it still whines with the new o-ring and fresh fluid your pump itself may have issues. How long have you been driving it with the whine?

For those out of warranty and have the whine in cooler weather this fix is a breeze. The correct seal on the suction side of the PS pump is 91345-RDA-A01 and both Honda and Acura use the same part. The new one is orange in color and costs 66 cents at a Honda dealer. The original one in my pump was black and not very pliable and did not seem to be round like the new orange colored one is. All you need is a 10mm box wrench, some absorbent towels and about 10 minutes. It's a snap and so far the whine is gone. Might be a good time to suck out the PS fluid as mine was black and stunk at 64K on my '07TLS

Hi... New to this site. Just bought my 04 TL in Oct. I'm so happy to hear thgis is an easy fix. I'll go to my local Honda dealer (as the nearest Acura dealer is 90 miles away) and get the O ring. Is there any instructions written so I can do this myself? I'd love to get this dam whining stopped. THANKS

Got this part from the dealer for 90 cents, and it worked like a charm. While my car was in for the timing belt service, I asked the service writer if they would replace the o ring while my car was already in the bay. He says sure, but it'll run you an add'l 50 bucks. Gotta love "Stealerships" lol. Thanks Acurazine DIY FTW!!!

thanks pohljm. looking forward to using this site. Add $50...damn....they could have given you a break. I took mine in to the Acura dealer right before Christmas, had the tranny fluid changed, which was $100. Then they brought the cabin and engine filters to me, and suugested changing them as well (they were in pretty bad shape). So I agreed and the total bill was around $300. So I will DIY when possible. thanks again...

During the same visit, they noticed I had a seal leaking. On the drivers side where the front axle goes into the transmission (slow leak), which they quoted $300. I will probably have then do it.

Damn, my dealer is expensive when it comes to parts. It cost me $3 for the O-Ring.

lol, I'm not complaining about the $3 but when it comes to more expensive stuff. It's usually 20% more than others I've seen.

Installed new o-rings, old ones were black and thin so all needed changing.. The whine is gone when starting but when turning the wheels noise starts again.. Didn't change fluids could it be that air got in and now i need to bleed it?

you can see if the air will work itself out over the next few days, but it sounds like that pump could use a rebuild
