'06 base, moon roof

So sometime a few months ago my moon roof decided it wanted to stop working. First off, it doesn't close entirely anymore. Looking at the roof you can see that one side of the glass doesn't completely seal anymore. When I try and raise it to the slant position, it makes an awfully loud cracking sound. I've actually had people jump when they hear it unexpectedly. It also wont even open fully anymore. If I try and open it entirely, it makes the same noise then just gets stuck. Surprisingly, it doesn't leak when it's "closed" and it rains. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Try lubricating the track and the motor gear/cable. Then try recalibrating the moon roof. If that doesn't work for you then check to see if the motor is loose, or if the motor gear and/or cable is worn.

If you can open the moon roof you can lube the cable with a spray lube. There's a gap on the cable track.

To inspect the motor you will need to remove the headliner.

It sounds like your moon roof is binding, not moving parralle to the track due to lubrication and then possibly causing excessive wear to to the cable and gear.

I would assist the moon roof to open by keeping it square in the opening. While turning on the switch use your hand and pull back on the weak side to help it open. Then lube.

C is the cable channel.

I think it may be that exactly, that the tracks dirty and it's binding. If the motor was trash, wouldn't it not move at all? So basically I should put the moon roof in the tilt position (considering it's the only one that works somewhat properly) then take a lubricant, like Wd-40, and spray it inside on the tracks?

No don't do that.

If you can't open it using the switch, Then open it manually with the tool.

sorry my apologies, yours doesn't have a manual tool for manual opening. That's for a different model.

Yeah, go ahead and try spaying it with wd40. Be careful tho bc you could stain the headliner if it gets on it.

The motor is above the passenger seats.

You might have to take the headliner out after all. Duf!
