05 TL heating and air issues

Hi all,

Just recently replaced the timing belt tensioner on my ‘05 TL that’s about to turn 200k. It’s been a rough spring with her. I did have mice invade my front air vents, and the metal woodpecker sound from the tensioner, but now after she’s running smooth again, I noticed no A/C. Refrigerant level is fine. At first I was thinking compressor clutch. Checked all relays, and no codes on DTC. Then something strange happened this evening. My wife drove it this evening after a good weather cool down and decided to turn on the heat. Same as the A/C, blower works fine, no heat.

Couple of things, first, it sounds related, but could be seperate. I thought I added enough coolant back into the system even after burping the lines, but maybe not? Did these mice chew though something behind the dash causing this?

Any ideas on where to start? The service manual doesn’t mention no heat, no a/c but blowers good in their troubleshooting matrix.

thanks!

Update, not enough coolant put back into the system for the heat. Heat is restored, but still no A/C. The compressor does kick in when A/C is called for.

Any ideas? Can the compressor still be bad even though it’s engaging?

I'm thinking blend-door issues more than compressor or system charge issues.

Would be nice to have gauges on the system to see if there is a correct charge in the system, but feel the pipe in front of the firewall to see if cold. Check water control valve.

I can only check the low side, and it says full. Low side going into the firewall is not cold. Does that mean the compressor?

How do you know it's full?

Looking at the gauge, are there any readings e.g. psi, or just green etc, and is the gauge in the "green" with air on engine running?
What I'm asking is attach gauge with a/c off, then turn a/c on, does gauge move?
